This is my soluce....
1) dont burn the .cue given by crystal chip (forget the readme.txt of version 19)
2) Unzip the firmware v19 in a folder
3) open nero, -new -iso cd
4) add all files of cc_firmware_019\fw\FILES in the root of your cd.
For to be sure. you should be have this file in root.
FWARE11.CCI
SYSTEM
BMINST.PBT
FWARE10.CCI
PS2.ELF
FWAREDF.CCI
And th folder BOOT
5) burn
6) put cd in your ps2. Boot and flash firmware.
Thank you for your help

I did say that in an old post i had somewhere. The problem with that is nero won't make a mode2 xa disc properly but some later ps2 consoles will run mode1 discs.

Ok... so maybe to use CDGENPS2 will be a better choice for the earlier console ?

As far as my problem goes, I'm not sure what happened. This is about the 30th PS2 I've done including slim and I've been lucky enough for them all to have worked first time all but one which was a firmware upgrade issue anyway. I'm certain the wiring was correct, all solder joints were good and no shorts on the bios pins. I've now totally removed the chip and the PS2 still acts the same, disc won't spin but I see the laser light, everything else is normal. I could kick myself though as I was a bit slack and didn't try the PS2 before starting work on it so I have no idea what state it was in before chipping. It was absolutely THICK with dust though so I know it's had some hammering. I've checked the obvious fuses but they are ok so I'm a bit confused at the minute as to what could be wrong.

cdgenps2 and mkisofs are the best solutions if you're having problems with cdtool.

sounds like just a whacked install. Doesn't have anything to do with the cdtool issues.

Change the tracking and focus coil resistors and the disks should spin again you might also need to replace the lens after you replaced the resistors.

Are there any diagrams out there illustrating these resistor positions on a rev 7 board do you know?
