hi, does anyone know of an alt location for connecting the HA wire to the board. I have tried over and over to connect it to the location and the diagram on the crystal chip website, but I just cant get it to solder. I got all other points to solder with no problems, but the HA point is being a pain. Hopefully someone will know of an alt location.

Flux is your friend. I was having problems with vias....its a via right? Anyways it doesn't matter what it is.

If its a via put a dot of flux on the via and then try to add solder to the hole via one side and heat to the other. With me, I just ended up putting solder on the end of Radio Shack 15 1mm tip iron, and dotting the via. Solder would then stick. I then tinned the end of the wire, dipped it in flux and then applied heat to the spot, and they stuck.

This is what I've found to work when soldering, it may be bad practice, I don't think so, but then again I haven't been doing this for very long.

If its a point, tin the end of your wire and then dip it in flux. Flux the point you want to solder to, and then put some solder on (tin) it, then flux it again. I guarantee you, it will stick

Flux is your friend, at least thats what I've found.

I remember a PSX point on one install that would NOT stick. I must have tried 15 times. Then on the 16th time with flux, it stuck.

thanks for info, i'll give it a try but I think I've messed it up too much for the flux to work. Hopefully there is another location that I can solder this wire to, or I'l just have to wait for the dms4pro se because it doesn't use that point.

Actually I had the same problem before. There is an other point for HA on the DSP, I edited that pic from www.norcalmods.com (great install ) to show you the location on the board. The problem is that I can't remember exactly if it was pin 3 or 4 when you count vertically from the bottom to the top according to the pic I attached. If you have a multimeter you can find it out easily.

You will also need flux to solder it to that point. My gut says it's point 3 but you better check with a multi meter.

It can get quite tight around there, especially if you don' t have an appropriate iron(0.4mm tip should suffice). I know cause when I install for V4 HA points I have use the same similiar IC spaced legs. Don't mess up it's probably your last shot since your flubbed the VIA.
