most backups fail to run / sleep mode does not work
most backups fail to run / sleep mode does not work –
a couple of days ago i bought a new v12 pstwo and had a local dealer
solder in a cc1.1! firmware is (hacked) 019 and bootmanager is installed on
mc1. unfortunately nearly every backup i make fails to run - unpredictably.
sometimes it doesn't boot at all - sometimes, after re-inserting the dvd,
it boots beyond the intro movies and then stops there.
i'm using dvd decrypter (iso read/write) and an 8 x nec dvd burner with tdk dvd-r media. burnspeed is 2 x. i'm wondering if the guys at the store f***ed
up the soldering or what else could be causing this problem. furthermore the "boot in sleep mode" option does not work at all (original game media inserted).
it stops saying "please wait..." and that's it. thanks a lot for your help!
Well sleep mode occurs when you press reset 3 times one after another before anyhting starts, and its probably soldering problem but hey Im a noob so Im not sure lol
Did you install the firmware too or just BM? If you installed the firmware too then its an installation problem. Take it back to your installer.

Or is there probably something else wrong (laser adjustment? would be pretty unusual for a 2 week old machine, I guess and hope ...) By the way: I forgot to mention that my god of war backup works perfectly - but that is the one and only backup which works and I did this the same way I backup'd 5 other games and they all don't work.
okay, took the machine back to the installer. the soldering was checked but it still doesn't work at the store every game i burnt ran fine with my console but back at home the same problems occured. seems that the problem gets worse the longer the machine is running. i was able to boot and play a resident evil 4 backup after the first switch-on but 15 minutes and 3 other games later i wasn't even able to get to the menu in resident evil 4. from that point on nearly no other game would boot. could this be a heat problem? i can hear the fan spinning though - maybe the chip has a heat problem? any ideas are greatly appreciated because my chip installer has no clue what to do. thanks!
alright, folks, here's the deal: USE VERBATIM BY ANY MEANS! if your backups don't run, do yourself a favor and buy some verbatim dvd-r - even if you believe you have quality dvds. TDKs, for example, absolutely don't work in my PS2! Thanks for your suggestions! Everything's fine now!
Can't always count on Verbatim being 100% ok, they don't make their own discs, I'd suspect you have Verbatim labeled Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp discs, which are excellent. With most of the brand name media, the brand on the pack is not the manufacturer of the media and that manufacturer is prone to change, for example TDK make their own media which is decent but they also sell media made by CMC Magnetics which is fairly crappy. Another example is Sony who use their own discs, Taiyo Yuden discs and rather crappy Daxon discs.

You can use this to check who manufactured the discs you buy.
The better manufacturers (and some of their manufacturer ID codes) are:
Taiyo Yuden (YUDENT, TYG0x) (Generally considered the best)
Mitsubishi Chemicals (MCC, MKM)
TDK (TDK, TTG0x, TTH0x)
PSTwo V14 SCPH-75002a: Crystal Chip 1.1
XBox 1.6b: SmartXX v2.0
Japanese made Fujifilm 8X +R are rebadged 16X TY discs. Bestbuy sells these for $20/25pk, $40/50pk, $80/100pk. OFTEN, Bestbuy has sells on some of these packs and you get them for half price. I think just last week they had the 25pk for $8, after digging around and finding all the Japanese made packs, I picked up 100 16X +R TY discs for under $40 <---That's a deal!
Other weeks they'll sell their 50pks for $20 and the $100pks for $40. I always have around 200 of these blanks, because I catch these sells.
I recommend Verbatim for DL though. A couple of weeks ago, BB had a sell on a 10pk for $18 and that's dirt cheap!
