KillZone and other games slow
KillZone and other games slow –

Hi, I have Crystal Chip 2.0 Pro installed on my Ps2 Slim, it works fine with most games expect for some of them. I played KillZone on my Ps2 using crystal chip and found it to slow down in some areas, this is an fps issue. Black also slows down in some areas, and I don't like this, what can I do to solve this problem?
Also, what the difference between booting in Enhanced mode and Minimal mode? Thanks.

Such slowdowns can occur when using video fixes (NTSC to PAL or vice versa), and could be caused by bad media (low quality blanks or DVD+R media).
The difference between enhanced and minimal mode is, that BM will be shut down when booting in minimal mode, so there won't be any patches or fixes active in minimal mode.

Hi Jones, thanks for your reply. I have high quality blank DVDs, they're Sony DVD+R.
I'm not using video fixes, could it be that DVD+R media reduce FPS in games? I have never heard of this before.

The PS2 console itself is 'picky' with DVD+R media in general, so its not the chip if your not using any fixes, its probably the console.
Maybe try setting the booktype to DVDROM or try DVD-R media.
PS2 Consoles:
SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

I use DVD Decrypter so it automatically sets it to DVD-ROM, but it still lags!

You should always use DVD-R media for the PS2. Like JNABK said, the PS2 is picky with DVD+R media and in addition +R media may even damage the PS2s laser because it's harder to read.
Try good -R media (e.g. Verbatim) to see if the problem still exists.

Thanks for your reply Jones, I think it's the PS2's processor that's slowing it down, the PS2 is a fairly weak system. Another thing is that the slim PS2 has both of it's EE and GS on one chip to save money, and I think that affected the performance a little bit since it over heats a lot.
