Just got my PS2 modded, a few newbie questions –

Hello all. I recently picked up a Japanese PStwo, and just had somebody install a Crystal Chip 1.2 Lite installed. Got the PStwo back, seems to be working great, tried a slew of games and they all worked. I then tried a Region 1 DVD, and no go. Hmm. In trying to figure out why it won't play - because the chip is supposed to allow for all region DVD playback - it seems that I need to go into the BootManager and change settings there.
Except, I can't figure out how to get into the BM. When my machine boots up, it goes straight to the typical PS2 main screen. I thought maybe booting into the BM had been turned off, so I checked around, but couldn't find anything on how to get your machine to load into the BM if you had set it to not load automatically.
Thus, my guess at this point is that it doesn't have the BM installed period. Is that possible? I guess I was assuming that they had some sort of BM pre-installed, but it seems like I'm wrong.
So, if that is the case, from what I've read here I need to download and burn to a CD the BM software and the firmware to go along with it, and I need to load that CD in the mode where you hit the reset button three times in a row. Correct? And at this point, could somebody recommend which version of the BM/firmware I should go with?
I appreciate any help I can get with this!

As you can't be sure which version of the Firmware is installed on your chip, you should upgrade it as well as install BM. BM can't be pre-installed by moders on the 1.2 Lite as it is installed on the Memory Card (on CC 2.0, you can install BM on the chip memory).
And no, there is no way to unable or disable BM. If it is installed, the PS 2 boots on it. period.
So, just download the hacked 34 firmware, burn it, and install the firmware and BM from this CD. Be sure you have enough memory on your MC (about 1 Mo).
About the three times reset (recovery mode), do it only if you have a black screen while booting this CD.

Yes all you need to do is download the hacked firmware ,burn to a cd . Upgrade the firmware form the recovery console ,then install BM to your PS2 memory card . I would get the 29 hacked firmware it is more stable ,every game and movie I load in that firmware worked.

The BM has to be on a memory card? Erg. I should have done more research before getting the mod, because I would have gone with a 2.0 instead.
So, erm, should I go with v34 or v29? What, by the way, is the difference with the "hacked" versions of the firmware?

Ah, okay. I need it for work to play reviewable copies, so that's a big concern for me.
Also, seeing as how you're a Mac guy - any tricks I need to know for burning the BM/Firmware CDs with Toast?

Just drag and drop the .bin file on Toast, and burn. As easy as the Mac

Yup, something like that. I have an official PS2 unit for playing preview/review versions sent to me by companies, but the thing is flaking out on me more and more, so I decided to get a modded unit to try to take its place.
