my v7 ps2 laser's screwed, it's too shitty, it cannot read any disc. so i might buy crystal chip 2.0 pro and ps2 network adapter to boot games off ps2 hdd but i have a question to be sure,
i cannot use the firmware/bootmanger cd to install, so can i transfer fw and bm files via ftp or something from pc to ps2 hdd to install the files? i have a router and a crossover cable.
if cant, is there a modchip for ps2 that allows this network installation? dms4pro?

My guess would be that if you had it professionally installed that person could flash the chip before inserting it into your console and setting your Memcard with BM if you send that as well. (Provided that they have an extra PS2 on hand to install the chip into first)

That way you will not need to use any CD's.

You can flash your CC using Network, but to be able to access the first time your console by FTP or by ps2client, you need to launch the server on it first. And as your console can't boot on anything else than a CD without a flashed modchip, you're stuck.
I'm joining LeGioN1202 with its advice, try to install an already flashed CC.
About stock DMS, I think it's not flashed too (but I might be wrong).

You could try to make a boot disc with PS2Link and install and run it from your HDD with HDL. If that works you can use the network installation like it's described on the CC Wiki. If you can't boot PS2Link, then your really stuck.
