Okay, I've searched these forums up and down and I haven't found definitive steps to get this thing going on my PS2.

    Info:
    v7 PS2 w/ CC 2.0 4MB Flash
    34 v2 hacked firmware / v2.16 BM
320GB Seagate Barracuda formatted with WinHiip (48Bit HDLoader)

First off, I formatted the drive with WinHiip. I installed the HDD into my PS2 and booted up. The HDD was not detected in BM even after turning on auto-start HDD in the configuration menu. I did some reading and learned that the chip needed a partition named "CRYSTAL".

I found a bootable .iso of ULE v4.12 and burned it to a disk. After booting it, I navigated to the HDD Manager and created the "CRYSTAL" partition. I could not figure out how to actually install the ULE elf to the MC, nor could I figure out how to create the /BM/Apps directory in the "CRYSTAL" partition. My plan is to have emulators and a few other apps in the CRYSTAL partition, and have HDLoader take up the rest of the drive. I could not even figure out how to get the HDLoader elf onto the MC.

So I thought maybe I would try to download the Mega-Pack and create a bootable cd so I could just install the apps through BM. The links were down in the wiki, and I'm not sure how to turn the Essential-Pack into a bootable, much less get the desired elfs on the MC.

As you can see, I'm quite the novice at this. If someone could explain what I'm doing wrong, it would be greatly appreciated. I could not FTP to the PS2 (I kept getting asked for a User/Pass?), and I have a USB HDD that was detected by BM, but I don't know where to place the files or how to transfer them for that matter.

    Thanks

Here are the tutorials about the Megapack and app installation in general:
    http://ccwiki.psx-scene.com/index.php/Mega_Pack
    http://ccwiki.psx-scene.com/index.ph...ation_Tutorial
Should answer most of your questions.
About HDD: The partition name is "Crystal" (without the quotes), you can create directories with uLEs filebrowser, but you don't need to as all directories are created when installing an app to HDD.
And last but not least, many apps can't be started from HDD (esp. uLE and SMS), the MC is still the prefered place for apps. (not much of a problem since you can use uLE to backup your game saves (psuPaste) to HDD, so you won't ever run out of free space)

    Thanks for the info Jones.

I finally figured out how to copy ULE to the MC. I placed it in the /boot/ directory. Does it autoload if I hold R1 while powering up?

My problem now is getting PS2 Client to work. It worked when I started the Network & Host in BM, but it's not being detected in ULE. I'm trying to bring over some of the elf files (HDLoader, emulators, etc) from my pc.

I'm slowly starting to figure this stuff out.

Yes of course, PS2 only uses PFS format.
How did you try to copy the files? With BM or with uLE?
There are different versions of PS2Client floating around. For uLE you need the one from the uLE thread and for BM the one from the CC Wiki (just in case, cause I'm not sure if BM will work fine with the uLE client and vice versa).
Also make sure that the name of the ELF matches the one in the APPINFO.PBT and stick to upper case filenames.
And finally if you get a black screen or get to the PS2 browser screen, install the app on the MC, because not all apps will work correctly (SMS) or won't work at all (uLE) when started from HDD.
