HDCOMBO + CC2.0 = HDloader Problem

I installed a cc2.0 and HDcombo on a v13. Everything went great except for this small problem.

In order for HDloader to boot a game I have to have the disc lid open. I can close the lid after the game boots

With the disc lid closed Hdloader still loads, I go to choose the game and then I just get a black screen which never loads the game. The red LED on my PS2 controller turns off.

I've tried several different hdloader elfs, some that I have put together and others that I have downloaded and I get the same result. I even used the V12-13 patch in the HDLgui to build an elf.

Here is the weird thing, I only have to keep the lid open if I'm loading from the MC or using Launchelf to load HDL elfs from the HD or usb flash.
But if I load from a disc I just load it from the disc and it works, I don't have to open the lid.

Any idea whats going on? :crazy:

What core patches have you used in the gui when u built the hdl.elf

Mmmm... :chinscrat this smells like an options problem... :chinscrat Instead of downloading HDL.elf files and trying them infinite times :crazy: , I would download a clean HDL.elf and patch it myself, using the patching options that fit me most. You could save a lot of time and solve several problems this way...
Actually, most of the HDLoaders you can usually download on the net come from people who probably made them according their ps2 settings (e.g. the way they boot their console, etc...) ;)
Make one that fits your needs

Some of the HDL elfs are ones that I put together myself specifically for this this console. Like I said earlier I applied the V12-13 fix, and I also played around with some of the options to get different elfs. I also tried HDL elfs I DL just to make sure and they all responded the same.


They all work fine when the disc lid is open. When the disc lid is closed they still load up but when the game is selected and about to load it never loads it just gives a black screen.

HDloader isn't the problem, at least I don't believe it is. HDloader works a 100% with the disc lid open. If someone wants to send me their HDcombo HDL elf to try I'll try it but I'm sure at this point HDL is not the issue.

The problem is why do I have to have the disc lid open to use HDloader? Is it some type of sensor that is somehow messing with the CC2.0 or the Hdcombo.

I've heard exactly the same complaint on an other forum, that guy resoldered the hdcombo 3 times but it didn't help. Games would only start if the lid was open, but they also started when the 2 lid switches were pushed (to make the PS2 think that the lid is closed). So only when the lid itself was physically closed games didn't start, he never figured out why, but maybe his story helps you to find the cause. Might be a cable that gets sqeezed or something like that, I've no idea too.

Thanks for the info Jones23 I was leaning towards the switches themselves. I'll look at the switches this weekend maybe I can figure something out.

I swear I've read about this problem before here on these boards but I can't find the thread it was in.

Ah this is what you were trying to contact me about last night. Sorry we didnt get to communicate but I think your internet connection was screwy or something. Anyway you might try patching a clean HDL without the V9 patch. Maybe we can talk about this more latter :). BTW a normal V12/13 will only boot HDL with the lid closed. With the lib open HDL will only boot to the splash screen then hangs, so your situation is very odd.

Well I just got done de-soldering the hdcombo and installing it again and its the same problem.

Before I did that I did look over the sensors and messed around with them. The sensor in the rear left of the PS2 when closed is the one that gives the problem. The reset sensor can be on or off and HDL still works.

Sped I just tried your elf idea and its the same results. Don't worry about it, we had a storm here last night and my internet kept going out. I'll try and talk to you later.

I might have to just live with it. So my procedure is going to be open the lid and turn on the PS2, select game from HDL and either close the lid or leave it open.

Looks like its just a wacky PS2, everything else functions a 100%

I can boot HDL just fine, no matter if the lid is closed or open. Starting games is also uneffected by the lid.
It's really strange that the lid is affecting HDL on other PS2s.

I am a noob compared to you but I just purchased four slim units from e-bay and fixed most with various issues but one in particular had something funny with the lid. It would work intermittently. I took the top lid off and ran it with out the top cover on and it worked if I secured the two switches and the brake out of the way. I put the cover from another slim on and it worked just fine. That cover caused the other unit to have lid switch problems. I could NOT see anything wrong though :crazy: .

I do not have the HDcombo yet but maybe you can do something similar. Bypass the top cover (if the HDcombo is setup that way). I doubt this is the problem after what you posted but after the logical steps are exhausted it is time to try anything.
