    just installed a crystal 1.2 into a gh-036-51.

after mod i turned on ps2 updated the chip with latest hacked firmware
tested a few different backup dvd's. inserted killzone and after a few minutes ps2 went black.

now it powers up but instantly freezes up, the cooling fan doesnt move. have to unplug it to reset power. so i opened it up checked and rechecked and even triple checked all connections and wiring, and all are good.the crystals l.e.d. is now on constantly so i removed the chip and the ps2 is still frozen. i installed removed chip in different version of slim and it worked fine.

anyone got any ideas on what this could be ? bad fuse?

2 more brand new out of the silver wrapper crystal 1.2's into 2 more brand new out of the box v14 (gh-036-51)slim ps2's and exactly the same thing happened. within a few minutes of flashing firmware they are now dead, frozen, seized.

ive taken the chips out and the units are still frozen. what are these chips doing to these v14's to sieze em up like this.

    WTF!!!

What Diagram are you using? Is this one the same as you are using?

Well the only difference I can see between the two diagrams is the 3v point. It might be worth your while checking these out. You never know the diagram your using may be wrong. I'm not saying it is but having those two chips shit themselves like they did somethings got to be wrong. Check those two different 3v points and see if they are the same. Let me know how you go.

no difference in swapping power point for chip. the ps2's are dead and the only reason is that there is a serious bug in these crystals that kills this version of ps2. the ps2's worked perfectly before the chip install and instantly died as soon as you boot it up.

crystal chips used to be the best out there, but you can guarentee that if i have to replace 4 brand new consoles because of a glitch in these chips that the makers arent telling people about ill be making some noise and letting as many people know i can.

I wonder how many people who bought a single one of these chips and installed it them selves, fried thier console and thought they did something wrong???? when in fact it is these chips.

hairbag: as a distributor we have run into dead CCs, but nothing that has killed a board. more like they didn't work out of the package. but very few since the whole actel 0435 issue (long time ago).

look at your laser, is the eye black/cloudy.

try installing one of these chips into a gh-036-51 and see what happens for your self.

these chips just killed 4 brand new consoles.

1 - took console out of box
2 - plugged in and tested with original game.
    3 - open up ps2 install crystal
4 - close ps2 and power up to dead frozen console.
5 - remove chip and still dead.

since i got these chips indirectly from you foundmy, i sure hope you can help come up with a good answer for this.

    this is rediculous.

Well I think your only option is to try and get one of these seized ps2's to work without the chip. In other words find out exactly why they are not working with the chip removed. (fuses ?? , laser ?? etc.). Once you know "what" is wrong you can start to work out "why". Someone needs to post in that has done a crystal install on a gh-036-51 board.

Ive got a dead gh-036-51 here with one of these chips in it too. Cept this one never even booted for a second after I installed the crystal 1.2. I turned on the unit and the unit was dead. Removed the chip as well and the unit is still dead.

Installed several MI's in same version (get them from walmart down the street) and have had no problems at all.

Installed several of the Crystal 1.0's into this version as well and had no problems at all.

Its like the bios is getting fragged at startup and just freezes.
