It won't play anything untill you installed Firmware and BootManager. Just make upgrade CD install FW and BM and everthing will be fine, if you installed the chip correctely of course.

I've never used a crystal chip but this behavior sounds like maybe the lens is too weak to boot the disc before the chip "times out" waiting for the slow laser to read the proper sectors. Some chips wait longer than others, so it appears they work much better in older machines. Duo2se, for example, didn't work on a v7, but with duo3 I guess they coded it to wait a little longer and it usually does work in a v7. Of course, if that console you have in your hands has had a hard life, then its tired and you're better off using the slimline for playing backups.

I got it up and running. will post pics soon!!!!!
software issues now..
through troubleshooting i ende dup with 4-5 discs that I didn't mark and I don't know which one is the official and which one is hacked.
By guess i stuck one in and installed firmware w/out boot manager.
couldn't boot nothing. black screen.
tried putting it what i know was the hacked firmware nothing happened.
hit reset 3 times w/ the original blank one that worked and it booted. replaced w/ hacked and it stuck on the crystal chip screen..
so i reset 3 times again and installing off the blank disc (which.. could be the hacked).. this time I got BM loaded on flash.. going to try booting the one i know is hacked..
which begs the question..
how do you tell?
