first modchip install –
i believe i am successfull.. got some bugs too work out thought
crystal 2.0 pro on a v7
boot w/ the regular sony introduction.. recognizes an original so far but doesn't play it..
haven't loaded firmware in yet..
tried reset 3 times but still no success..
spins up.. goes from the browser to a black screen and then backs out to the browser
It won't play anything untill you installed Firmware and BootManager. Just make upgrade CD install FW and BM and everthing will be fine, if you installed the chip correctely of course.
green light blinks and goes off... everything ok per crystal website..
ps2 boots to ps2 screen
still won't play backups..
doesn't give mea disc read error anymore but i tried burning the cc-upgrade.cue on to a cd-r and i get a "please insert a playstation 2 disc".
once again.. wiring job seems infe. green lights goes on and comes off.
laser is working.. spins disc.. screen fades away as if it's loading and then i get a red "insert ps2 disc" for the firmware on cd-r's..
regular ps2 games fade away and come right back to the sony browser..
I've never used a crystal chip but this behavior sounds like maybe the lens is too weak to boot the disc before the chip "times out" waiting for the slow laser to read the proper sectors. Some chips wait longer than others, so it appears they work much better in older machines. Duo2se, for example, didn't work on a v7, but with duo3 I guess they coded it to wait a little longer and it usually does work in a v7. Of course, if that console you have in your hands has had a hard life, then its tired and you're better off using the slimline for playing backups.
wonder which wires are the cd/dvd controller
my slim is a 75001.. won't be able to add a hard drive

originals do come up in the browser as a gold disc..
spin up sounds clean
I got it up and running. will post pics soon!!!!!
software issues now..
through troubleshooting i ende dup with 4-5 discs that I didn't mark and I don't know which one is the official and which one is hacked.
By guess i stuck one in and installed firmware w/out boot manager.
couldn't boot nothing. black screen.
tried putting it what i know was the hacked firmware nothing happened.
hit reset 3 times w/ the original blank one that worked and it booted. replaced w/ hacked and it stuck on the crystal chip screen..
so i reset 3 times again and installing off the blank disc (which.. could be the hacked).. this time I got BM loaded on flash.. going to try booting the one i know is hacked..
which begs the question..
how do you tell?
i think it worked... booted hacked firmware cd from what i had running... reinstalling bm off of that..
here it is –
having some software trouble now.. but here are the install pics. couldn't wait till the next day to get glue. and i got so excited i forgot to solder on 2 wires.. twice for a total of 4..
i know how to put that sucker together..
