This is my first modchip installation, it is a crystal chip v1.1 into a SCPH-75001a(GH-040-12) PS2. After soldering about half of the pins, I realized the version 14 diagram provided by mod-chip.com was not the same motherboard as mine. So I was pretty upset about that. Is there a pin diagram for installing the CC1.1 on a 75001a? I found a picture of someone else's install I've been trying to use. Also.. I'm having so much trouble with the VIA's that I've almost given up, I have heard you are supposed to scrape off a little bit.. and possibly use flux?.. Before I go through all of the trouble doing doing these horribly hard pins, I was wondering if I could disconnect the power wires to the modchip and test to make sure the ps2 still works?

Could I use the "razor method" to do connections a, b, and f-i, directly to the pins of that cpu looking thing that the traces go to?

The quick answer - sometimes, depending on model and the chip. With the Magic 2 line of chips and earlier PS2 models, you could unsolder the power and ground wires and have the machine boot. However, I haven't been able to do this with the DMS3 and later chips on the models I've tried.

alright thanks, ive pretty much gotten it now, after i scraped off the layer above the via's better, the solder stuck much easier.. though im still having trouble getting the last ones in the area soldered without unsoldering the ones beside it.. pretty frustrating, i think ill get it though.. i just hope i havent ****ed up the ps2.. this is my first try and im not sure exactly how sensitive the traces and whatnot are

i finished modding the ps2.. and it turned on.. but it didnt read any discs that i put in it.. i tried a burned audio disc, an original dvd movie, and a burned disc with the firmware upgrade.. nothing was recognized, is this most likely a problem with my soldering, or something else?

Did you burn the update disc correctly? It has to be burned in Mode2. The savest way to do that, is to select the bin file with nero and manually set Mode2. I always do it that way, since my nero won't read the cue file, and never had a problem with any of my update discs.

    best regards Jones23
