DVDs not reading after install

Hello,

I installed a crystal chip 1.2 into my slim v15 pstwo. CDs work fine, but anything that is on a original or backup dvd won't load. It simply gives disc read errors. The drive keeps making noise but not normal noises, it's more like seeking types of noises. Also, dvds worked when i was testing the unit, however when I put it back together, they stopped working alltogether.

Now, I've removed the chip and dvd's still won't load. I can't watch movie dvds or play game dvds.

I don't understand how the laser could stop working so quickly... Also, would a replacement laser do the trick?
