Just installed the CC 2.0 on a v15 slimline.

Tested by booting EVERY disc type. I booted original ps2 and psx discs, worked great. And backup ps2 and psx discs boot great.
Put in my GOW2 dvd9 disc (which I've been waiting to try out now forever), and that booted perfectly!

But my question is, and I've done some searching the forums on this...
Are my dvd9 backups going to run into problems at like the halfway point (the layer break)?
Is there any way to know if they will have problems without getting halfway through the game?

I made the iso, use the verbatim+r dl, and use imgburn (formerly dvd decryptor, same thing really).
I think I recall the prog reading the layer break, but I don't understand all that stuff.

Remember I have a v15, so its pretty good reading all media. I always use +r. I actually had more problems with -r when I've tried them.

So...is there anything more I should be doing? Or is just making a copy and using imgburn (dvd decryptor) at slow speeds enough to have a good dvd9 backup work the whole way through?

I don't play backup discs but I have had dealings with GOW2 while playing it off of the hard drive. The program imgburn was the solution to my problem. Once I used it to rip the original disc and copied that ISO to the hard drive it ran properly, so I would hazard a guess that you would be OK using the method you described.

Yeah, I would have been surprised had imgburn (decrypter) not been one of, if not the best program to use.
I've always used it for everything from image making, backups, and movies.

I use Sony media for my dvd's and cd's. It is decent to begin with, plus considering that Sony makes the playstation, and my dvd player is Sony, I figured they would be very compatible.

The only Verbatim I use is for dvd9. I keep hearing it works great for the ps2, plus its the only DL media I can find anywhere! You can get that at your local walmart. The other DL they had was like memorex. Was cheaper, but no way was I going to burn precious dvd9 material to a memorex!

I have a lite-on 1633s (I think) burner. Burned tons of stuff over the last couple years. I actually bought a new, slightly more expensive lite-on recently. Didn't read or write as well as my old one.
    Newer isn't always better!
Including DL discs, with my 1633s (w/upgraded firmware), I don't even know what getting a coaster is like.
Combining a solid burner like that w/ imgburn is probably why. The super easy bit setting prog to make everything dvd-rom also helps, I'm sure.

Also I don't think many people know about imgburn and that it is in fact a newer version of dvd decryptor.
People should try it and give it a shot, or simply upgrade from decryptor. Had nothing but perfect burns ever since I used it.

Anyhow, my dvd9 movie backups have always worked fine in my sonly dvd player.
I was worried about the layer break problems that some people have, maybe I won't have them.
Still, I better keep the dvd5 versions of the GOW's and GT4, ect. on my HD just in case.
From what I hear, if I can pop GT4 backup in and have no problems off the bat, then that will likely mean that the whole thing is good, considering the laser probably goes into the second layer all the time, I'm guessing.

If I have any problems, I'll be sure to update you guys.

I had the second layer break problem with the original God of War. Couldn't figure out why it froze at the Titan until I looked at the file size of the image in HDLoader and it was only 4GB. I used DVDDecryptor to re-rip it and it played all the way through without problems.

OK, GT4 backup is skipping all over the place and won't load properly (intro skips).
I heard of the toxic patch, but was told the CC 2.0 patches DL games automatically.

So why is GT4 showing signs as if there is no patch done on it?

I burned the same as GOW, which seems to work fine so far.

Is there anything special I need to do to get GT4 to work? Or is this just one DL game that just happens to not work w/ crystal chip?

You'll know if the Toxic patch was applied when you boot the game. If its the normal ps2 splash screen when the game boots, no patch was applied. Sorry, I can't comment on the CC auto-patching, never used a CC. I suppose if a game was toxic-patched, your chip would detect this and not try to auto-patch.

I like to run a Nero cd-dvd speed "disc quality" test, or you can use kprobe. If theres nothing over 2 in the PIE (bottom) graph its a good burn. A 3 here and there won't kill you either. So if you get a good scan then either theres something wrong or your original was scratched/dirty.

Well, I wasted 2 good verbatim DL's on this. Made one GT4 backup without the patch, and one with (although I'm not sure that it even patched correctly).

Both do the exact same thing, so I think I can rule out a bad burn or bad batch (considering GOW and GOW2 were just burned from the same batch and are fine, so far).

Is anybody out there with a crystal chip able to play GT4 backup? If so, how?

I did read on the CC site that this latest firmware does auto patch. In fact they specify dvd+r dl in particular should be fine, which is what I'm using.

I do have the dvd5 version of the game as well, and I don't think I'm missing much by just playing that backup.
But for completeness sake, I'd like an exact duplicate to play.

I tried patching gt4 with toxic. It wouldn't let me. Says can't be patched. I was able to patch the cue file once, I think, but I don't know if that did anything.

When I checked the properties on the file afterwards, it wasn't even modified according to that date.

Why won't it even patch my image? It actually detects a file (within the image) that can be patched, but just won't patch.

If you use BM you must switch the DL patcher off if you burned the game with Toxic-patch.
Have a perfectly working copy of GT4,God Of War 1 and 2 and Forbidden Siren 2
all burned with DVD-Decrypter and Verbatim DVD+DL printable
