    Hi

resently i have had a few PS2's returned with failure "won't play backups". When inserting a backup disc the ps2 sees it as a valid disc but will not play it. Same issue with firmware 34v2 ! so it is not possible to reflash firmware. tried an old cd with firmware 1.8, this one boot's but i when selecting flash, it just says "done" right away. Installing bootmanager from v1.8 to a memcard seems to work, but PS2 doesnt boot from memcard so no luck there.

Any one got a solution ? (other than replacing the chip :-/ )

    Best regards Kim

Is it possible to erase the firmware through the install disc, and try to install 34v2 that way..? Does it refuse to boot backups through the boot manager, if you can even reach it?
I'm not entirely sure what the recovery mode is for, but you can access it if you press the reset button 3 times.. :S

    Hi

Sorry title should be "Crystal Chip's fails to load games" !

It doesnt show BM, but starts with sony boot screen.
It show that a backup/firmware disc is a PS2 disc, but when pressing X the screen will turn black for a second and then back to sony browser.
Only backup/firmware i can make it boot with is the old CC1.8 firmware, and i think this is to old for a CC2.0SLE chip, as when BM menu turns up i cant upgrade firmware or install BM with it. Looks like CC and PS2 is working, maybe a bug in firmware or someone have made a firmware killer. This is the third PS2 within a month with this problem.

    Best regards Kim

I don't know.. if you can manage to boot into one of the discs maybe after pressing reset 3 times to activate the recovery mode, that might help..?

Do you have the original 34v2 or the modified? Both should be able to boot homebrew such as the firmware installer. Modified is what is required to boot backup games. Other than that, check wiring?

Also, try a PS1 backup for kicks.
