If you don't have a CC the upgrade disc won't even start, you only get a black screen. So no harm can be done, except for a useless burned disc.![]()
i put the disk in and upgraded firmware and installed bootmanger but now i cant boot any game at all!? wtf did i do wrong? i installed everything then turned off the system... rebooted and bam... no crystal chip menu just the usual menu for ps2 and no game able to boot
Which CC do you have and which software release did you try? R29 is much more stable than R34 and has better homebrew compatibility. R34 has some new features, but other things don't work (DVD video region free, some display patches). I'd recommend R29.
If you installed BM to MC, do you have enough free space (1.6MB)?
You can boot the upgrade disc in recovery mode. To do so insert the disc, turn off the PS2, turn it back on and hit Reset 3 times. You won't see any difference, but the disc should boot again. Then try to install FW and BM again.
the crystal chip is version 1.0 to be exact... i first tried r34 and for whatever reason it would not work... i then put in the r29 and hit upgrade firmware then installed bootmanger... after it finished i turned it off. i then turned the power back on and the crystal chip menu popped up... all is working now but i did manage to screw it up again by accidentally popping in the r34 disk... had to go back and do everything again
im assuming that once you upgrade firmware and install bootmanger you just turn the ps2 off correct?? or is that where i was going wrong??
You did everthing correct, but it's known that R34 causes problems with the older CC models, esp. the CC 1.0. So just stick with R29 as that's working best with your chip.
for sure sticking with the r29... im really amazed at the features in the chip... now to discover some of the great things i can do with that chip... is their any sort of download that has say sms player and other things that can be put on a usb stick then transfered over to the memory card?
thank you once again jones23 for all the help and direction... without it im sure i would have went crazy hahaha
cheers from canada!
Yes there's the CC Mega Pack, but it's heavily outdated.
So you want to build your own app packages like described here, or use the Mega Pack as base and update the elf files inside.
The must have apps are LaunchELF (uLE) and SMS so check the links in my signature.
There's also some other interesting stuff in the CC Wiki, just browse through to learn more about your new modchip.
ahhh thank you!! gonna give it shot here in a few... i think just for testing purposes i will use the outdated version to see if i can even get it to run off my usb stick... then venture into updating everything possible
for whatever reason i could not get it to boot from the usb... i copied the entire "bm" folder to my usb but still a no go... or am i suppose to take everything out of the "bm" folder and paste that into the usb stick?
regardless im totally impressed with this chip... its just fantastic
