I have a PS2 that I bought premodded with crystal chip more than year ago which used to work fine. After several months of not using it I recently decided to play on it again but I noticed that when I put a backup DVD the BM which is installed in the memory card doesn't start, and instead the default Sony logo is launched and after that the PS2 goes to the Sony browser which shows the inserted memory cards and the DVD is recognised as a "Playstation 2 disc" however when I select to launch it the PS2 returns again to the browser.

I burned the lastest version of the hacked CC firwmare on a CD-R and when I put it inside the PS2 it worked fine so I reflashed the CC firmware, took the CD out and reset the console and lo and behold the BM launched this time and I when I put the PS2 DVD game backup it worked perfectly. But I noticed that if I leave the PS2 off for a short period I get the same problem and I have to reflash the CC again in order for the PS2 to recognise the BootManager and read DVD backups.

Does anyone know what might be the problem ??? it seems to me as if a battery in the Crystal chip is dead which could cause its flash memory to be lost after a short time which would explain the need to reflash it every time

Try to use software R29, which is much more stable than R34, and see if the problem still exists.

Just to let you know that the problem has disappeared after I downgraded the firmware to R29. It seems that I have been suffering the same problem as the people who posted in this thread: http://psx-scene.com/forums/crystal-...-firmware.html
