Could I upgrade CC flash to 16 megabits ?
Could I upgrade CC flash to 16 megabits ? –
]Hello Crystal Team,
I would like to upgrade the flash on my Crystal Chip to 16 megabits. Could the chip manage this amount ? And will this chip linked below work ? Is there a better one to use for this purpose ?
The main differences I see is
The maximum operating frequency has been increased from 20MHz to
and the pages are written in 528 bytes instead of 264 bytes.
Thanks for your help,

Oh..I wanna know about this problem, too.
CC Flash size is too small, and it's allow to install ONLY BM.
I wish I could install another useful homebrew program in CCFS also.
Someone answer about this problem plz ;D
I am not saying its a problem I just want to try this out for my personal machine.
I was looking into this about a month ago myself. I never went much farther then looking for a compatible chip though. Even 4MB would be nice. I would love to boot BM, ULE, HDL, SMS all from the cflash. This and the ability to flash the stock flash even if your laser is shot would make for a very impressive chip. All those dead PS2's on ebay could get a second breath of life without the need to by a new laser. Bring on the CC2.1!!!! haha
As far as I know it should be possible to upgrade with some associated firmware hacks, but it's been a long time since I've looked at CC firmware. The frequency cap should be no problem but the page size might need to be the same as it might interact with a state machine in the FPGA that you can't change (unless you want to design a total replacement for the FPGA bitstream, and then it's not really a CC anymore...)
It is not allowed to install ONLY BM! You can install anything you want on CC Flash, only the size is the problem.

Hey, I'm super curious if anyone here was able to upgrade their 1MB DataFlash to a bigger size chip. Wow! this is a great find.
The links for the chips don't work anymore... could someone fix this... This is very interresting....
Does apps installed on th ccflash suffers from the same issues that apps installed on the Hdd for exemple ??? you know the SHUTDOWN MM thing...
Does it mean we wouldn't have to worry about to put the line or not, therefore giving 1 standard way of calling apps from the flash>/?
