to each their own, i suppose. yes, in your eyes i am a lame cheater....and a newb gamer too (i can't beat jak 2) some people feel strongly about cheating, others don't.
however, I still appreciate the help jones, whatever you think of my practices.
to get around this, here is what I did. may be valuable for anyone who comes along later needing help.
installed Free MC Boot to a memcard. its very easy and can done from the crystal chip w/ a uL Elf launch.
then when you want to *cheat* , simply disable the CC with a 6 reset cycle, stick in the memcard w/ FCMB on it, and you will load FCMB, which in turn you can launch the codebreaker of your hearts content.
****OF NOTE***** launching codebreaker from mass: on slim's, (which models I'm unaware, but definately mine) doesn't go over well, resulted in a slow freeze. you'll need to either unplug any and all USB devices from the system prior to CB launch, or launch from mass, give it enough time to launch/load, and then remove the mass device, which undoes the slow freeze.
when you are done cheating, just put the PS2 back into standby, come out, and the chip is back working.
You can leave the MC w/ FMCB on it in the PS2, as the crystal chip will load its boot manager before FCMB loads, and I don't see a conflict there. issue resolved.
Actually, if you can get your hands on Gameshark 2 v4, you'll be set. It's what I use and works wonders. I keep my backup copy in my Ps2 and my actual disc on the top of my bookshelf so it doesn't get ruined, but it boots up just fine in enhanced mode for me.
