CC1.1 Problem –
09-05-2006,06:42 PM
Good day,
I have been running a CC1.1 in a version 7 PS2 for about 6 months without any problems....until last night. I was playing a back-up of madden 2007, which froze, since then the ps2 wont boot dvdr's at all. It will boot originals, cd's and and the firmware disk, but no dvdr backups. I opened up the ps2 and checked my connections which seem OK.
When i try to load a back up, it goes to browser...the ps2 disk shows up in the browser, but when i select it tries to load then goes back to browser or black screen.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank You

Thanks foundmy,
I checked the installation and everything looked good, but i had nothing to do so i completelty removed the chip and installed it again....same thing, plays everything but dvdr backups. Music CDr's, Firmware disk and original games boot almost instantly but now the dvdr's go to "disc read error".
Do these symptoms sound like a bad chip? cause i have 1 more crystal kicking around and might consider swapping.
thanks

Does it play CD-R PS2 back-ups? Does it play original PS2 silver bottoms? What about PSX?
EDIT: oops just read that it boots these fine.
Sounds like a laser issue to me.

I hope not.......................I checked the POT values and i get 1.158K Ohms and 1.647K Ohms. Are these acceptable values?
Before I start playing with the POTs, i am going to try adjusting the white cog.
Thanks

DVD should be 900 - 1000 ohms and CD should be 800 - 900 ohms
your laser is dead if everything but DVD's boot laser issue!!
trust me I have repaired over 500 PS2!

After playing around with the white cog (and removing the modchip) i got it to boot dvdr's again....upon close inspection with the cover off i found a loose solder ball shorting out some pins...not sure if that was my original problem. I still havent tried backup games, but it plays movies on dvdr's...which it wouldnt do before.
I have one question though about the POT values...the values i posted above (1.158K Ohms and 1.647K Ohms) were the original settings from manufacturer..i have never played with them, should i adjust them to the values you posted? or leave them alone?
Thank You

just because it will read na original does not mean it will boot a DVD-R or DVD+R.
See if it will read a backup movie and that will let you know.
If it reads the backup then leave laser pots alone, though I am not to sure about your reading.
Whihc of your readings is CD and which is DVD ??

Sorry i wasn't clear,
It does read back-up movies...thats what i meant by movies on dvdr, however i have only been able to get it to read movies on Verbatim DVD-R's which boot before going to browser. It still wont boot a movie on a Sony DVD-R which it used to do before. It goes to browser and just says "No data" and "Reading Disc" forever.

Unless there is something wrong with my Fluke DVM, i am pretty sure about the readings. I used this as my reference:
hxxp://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserPS2.htm
The picture of the V4 to V10 400C Lasers:
POT on left = 1.158K Ohms (I am assuming this is CD)
POT on right = 1.647K Ohms (I am assuming this is DVD)
Thanks again and i appreciate you advice.
