Ok, thanks Jones23. I have read the wiki and understand quite a bit, just want to be 100% sure.
But am I right in that I shouldnt use the original cc-update.bin to flash the console, but the hacked .bin? (if I want to play copied games)
If I understand it correctly, the original fw folder should only be used if I want to add apps?
1. Yes right, the original software doesn't play backups, only the hacked does.
2. You need the original FW, because it contains the "makeit.bat". With that you can create a FW CD, with all the apps you want to install. But you don't boot that CD. You install the apps with the App Browser.
Another way to install apps is using a USB Stick or the network. Then you don't need any FW, you only have to make the APPINFO.PBTs and move them to the correct folder on your USB drive or PC.(e.g. BM/APPS/ULE, or BM/APPS/SMS)
Thank you very much Jones. Now to my last question, Im sorry if Im annoying you with my noobyness, but I really appreciate your help:
If the only thing I want to do with my PS2, is to be able to play backuped and original ps2 games(no apps, etc), then the only thing I need to do is to flash the PS2 with the hacked .bin, correct?
Correct, as long as you don't have a CC2.0, which needs BM atm.
But not using uLE and SMS is wasting your PS2's true potential. Esp. uLE is something you'll need, as soon as you run out of MC space. It's the best thing to backup your gamesaves, better than the $ony browser and better than any other solution, like MaxDrive or such.

Not really, I downloaded Action Replay MAX and I just transfer all my gamesaves to a USB drive it takes like 5 mintues and I have never had a problem.
Really?
The MAX format is the worst format you can go for. None of the timestamps or attributes are saved with that. Believe me it's crap! The real shit!
USE ULE! That's far better than everthing else!
it saves timestamps perfectly fine if you mean say Prince of Persia 1 ingame time = 4:37 mintues or whatever.
I'm trying to get some clarity here on this issue, since The Agent recently told me otherwise:Originally Posted by Jones23

So, I just need to know if you need the BM to boot just backup games with the firmware or not. I currently use it, but it would be good to know...
That's no timestamp. The timestamps are the date of creation, and date of last update, not an ingame playtime.Originally Posted by Breath of Fire
E.g. GTA or PoP3: The last saved game is displayed first in the list. But when you backed it up as *.max, those times are lost. When restoring back to MC the date of the restore progress is written, which doesn't let's you know which of that saves you used the last time you played.
Just open any *.max file with PS2SaveBuilder, then you'll see under properties that the actual system time is displayed, not the time of original creation.
If you like the shitty max format and the dump filenames it creates, then go for it, it's your choice.
