Just installed a CC 2.0 SLE into a v7, got a 120 hd and the world is dandy. however it wont play backup PS1/PSX games. It acts like it is going to boot or at least it tries but then just sits at a black screen. it plays offical ps1 games and all ps2 games no prob but just not backup ps1. i'm using Jones' modifed firmware in the sticky. anyone have any ideas or know how i can modify the firmware?

That's prolly not a problem of the chip, but of the backup method. I also had some problems trying to backup PS1 games. I tried different burning apps and different burners and the only combination that worked was CloneCD and an Samsung CD-RW/DVD combo drive. Every other combination only had the BSOD, just like you're experiencing. Try an other burning program, and/or an other burner to get a working PS1 backup.

My PS2 doesn't like to read CD-Rs at all, be they Audio, PS2 or PS1. It will do it but I have to reinsert the disc a number of times. Does the drive spin and whirr like it's trying to read the disc? Do original PS1 games work? Do PS2 CD-Rs work?

well ive tried using nero - poweriso - and alcohol 120. al play back the same ive also tried putting it on a dvd. now the ps2 boots the hdloader cd with out probs and the cds are the same brand as the dvds. the cc sees the disc as a valad ps1 disc and asks how i want to boot it. the disc spins up but just sits on a black screen. i tried loading from the hd and it does the same thing. i know the image works - it plays on my xbox that i soft modded but it wont show menus so i cant check the invintory (why i want it to work on ps2).

Like I said above, it's exactly the same behaviour I had with the non-working PS1 backups. Try using CloneCD and if that doesn't help test it with an other burner.
BTW, PS1 games don't work with HDL.
And can you be sure that the image is ok when the xbox doesn't show menus? Is that a normal behaviour on the xbox?

    best regards Jones23

EDIT: I just tested one of the failed backup attempts. On my PS2 it's recognized as PS1 game, but booting results in a BSOD. On my PS1 it boots but hangs on the Playstation logo screen. There's definitely something wrong with it and I bet it's the same problem with your backups.

Have you tried PSx CD-Gen ?

This utility is similar to PS2 CDGen, but rebuilds PSX/PS1 game images.

Dont know if this app is warez or not, so i wont post a link.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded
