CC 2.0 boot question
I figured I'd better post my questions here since I now have a CC 2.0 installed in my V9 unit with a hard drive.
What I would like to do is just have this chip launch ulaunch.elf when it boots up. Nothing more. No fancy boot manager where I can then go select something from a menu. I thought that I could load it into the one meg of onboard memory but I am not having any luck. I have the latest firmware and boot manager installed. I can install UlaunchElf onto a memory card, but that is not where I want it to go. I want to boot this console with hard drive access without a memory card or disk present. I thought from what I read about this chip that it was possible.
I have also noticed that if I run UlaunchElf from the memory card I can access files on the hard drive but not run any. The system locks up hard if I launch ANYTHING from the hard drive. Keep in mind that if I disable the chip and launch my old memory card exploit everything works just fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because as it stands now I have a lot LESS functionality with this modchip than I had with the memory card exploit.
I know the boot manager takes up most of the space on the CC 2.0s memory; what I was hoping to do was just leave boot manager off and get UlaunchElf in that space. That way once it launches and I have hard drive access I can run all my other apps from there like I do with the memory card exploit.
Ok, I can't see your point when you tell you only want to launch your ELF files. That's exactly what BootManager does.
And don't forget that if you don't have BootManger, you won't be able to use advanced features of the chip like playing PAL and NTSC 50hz games in 480p 60 Hz (480p is certainly coming with 35 in a few days), or playing backup games, or get In Game Reset functionality, or get DNAS bypassing for playing online with backup games (ho yes, that's right you don't want to play backed up games)...
By the way, I won't enter polemic here, as it has already been discussed thousand of times.
If you want to boot to ULE without BM, you could try to install a special version of BM with only BM2.ELF which could be replacing by UlaunchELF. It's just a supposition, as I've never try and never will. I love BM too much for doing that...
I don't have the issue you describe here. I can launch any ELF files from Hard drive from UlaunchELF without troubles.

Ok, when I read this post I can better understand what you wand to do. Sorry, each time I see someone wanting to put away BM just because he don't know want to know how it works I become crazy.
So, what you want to do is autostart the HDD from the configuration screen of Boot Manager, then install HDLOADER on it, and configure Boot Manager to launch it if no disk is inserted with a timeout of 0 sec.
Perhaps you'll have to add the SHUTDOWN "MM" just after the :RUN line in the APPINFO.PBT, but If it works without it's better, as you won't loose the IGR feature.
Thank you very much for your input.
I didn't realize HD output was coming. That may be worth it as I am running my Xbox with Frosty's VGA softmod patch and the 480P looks great on the Sony Trinitron 21" monitor I have it plugged into.
I mainly am confused about why I can't run programs from the hard drive. I had BootManager set to launch UlaunchElf automatically and it worked. However anything I launched from the HD caused a hard lock.
I'll post more info when I get home to look at it.
OK, here's an update...
What you mentioned about replacing BM.ELF got me thinking. I tried the old Xbox trick of renaming an executable. I renamed BOOT.ELF to BM.ELF and re-created the boot manager installation disc. I then told BM that I wanted to install boot manager to the chip memory. It installed with just one error at the end. However when I rebooted BAM, I was in UlaunchELF instantly.
When I browsed my hard drive I was able to run anything I wanted to without problems. This leads me to believe that my lockups when running apps from the hard drive may be related to Boot Manager.
I was beginning to worry I might have a bad chip because foundmy.com shipped the dang thing in a DVD case with NO insulating material around the chip. That's right, a naked modchip rattling around in a hard plastic DVD case. I took pictures of it just in case I had to request an RMA.
At this point I am wondering two things:
1. Can I somehow access the onboard chip memory to copy the BOOT.ELF configuration file to it so it would not be dependant on the memory card?
2. How can I enable auto ATAD patching? No matter how I configure this chip I still can not install the browser 2.0 update from my Sony HDD Utility Disc. If I boot the disc with Boot Manager installed it locks the machine like every other hard drive related application does.
Thanks again for all the help.
