CC 1.1 problems (Hard Drive/PSX)
CC 1.1 problems (Hard Drive/PSX) –

Just got a premod and I'm having a few problems.
First, and I see I'm not the only one with this problem, PSX backups won't work. I can get them to load every so often, but usually it just goes black and locks up. But I'm using this same CD-R media for PS2 CD games and they work just fine. I tried going back to r18 and that didn't help.
Second, if I install my hard drive(genuine Sony 40GB) nothing boots, not even originals. Red screen of death. But if I take the HD back out, it's OK. DO I have to do something to the drive?

Sort of answering my own questions here...
I've noticed that PSX games don't seem to work if you let the PS2 go to the browser. You have to put in the disk, hit reset and let it grab the disk when it first boots. While I'm not sure this is a true solution, it seems to work consistently.
And PS2 hard drives, according to what I've been able to google for, DO have mod chip detection. So if I want to use a hard drive I have to buy a non-Sony one. Blah.

the method you u used above to boot psx backups is THE menthod to boot games... i play all my games like that except for DVD movies.... and i'm not so sure about the HDD solution you gave... if sony HDD's were not to work with ps2's with modchips then people wud'nt have bought it or FFXII for that matter... i think you have to tweak some settings in your chip config menu... or try the drive in any other ps2...
