Can't read DVD (even original) after CC1.1
Can't read DVD (even original) after CC1.1 –

Hello !
I've installed CrystalChip 1.1 into my PS2, ver.4
After that, i can't read DVD discs, even the original games.
But..i can read CD, i have already installed last firmware and the bootmanager. No problem with that, only with DVD media.
I've checked all connections, all correct, no bridges.
I've checked all cables, maybe for a interruption, but nothing, cables are good.
I've checked the pots, values are good, into original settings.
Can be a laser problem ? how many laser diode has the cd/dvd reader ? maybe only the dvd-laser is dead ?
But...if it's the laser... this mean that CC1.1 destroyed my laser diode ?
Thanks for help
David

the mod has no effects on the laser.
are you sure your istall is perfect? did you go to DVD controller on top or bottom of the mainboard, you should be looking at A-I and HA point

Yes i've checked all the soldering.
I can re-check A, I and HA if this is where to look.
I've soldered on the TOP of the mainboard for all connections, is it correct ?
I've checked the laser diode when the ps2 is turned on, and i see the red dot, so i think the laser diode is ok (on another forum i've seen that infrared is for CD, and red light is for DVD).
So...this seem a voltage failure on the diode right ? i must try to correct the POT value..
What's the maximum value i can reach before burning the diode ?

red flash on laser does not indicate it will or will not read media, take ohm readings and the POTS under the PS2 laser

POT for DVD measure 970 ohm.
POT for CD measure 1200 ohm, but CD works good.

take DVD to 900, if it does not solve the issue you need a new laser

If you take it down to 900 ohms and it doesn't work doesn't indicate that the laser is dead. You still have plenty of life left. Don't blame everything on the laser though. Your chip or installation still might be the issue.
The thing that got me thinking was this PS2 couldn't even read originals after the chip installation. So I'm leaning more towards your installation or the chip itself to be the cause of this problem rather than the laser.

true, you may also have to adjust the whit cog or the laser height.
Something I never asked did it read original DVD's before you modded it?
