Boot Problems –
I have a Ver.5 and installed the CC2.0 and I tried with the hacked version 29
it boots to the install screen and only lets me install Boot manager and when I try to click on the upgrade firmware it dont do anything. I try to burn all the other ones and it just goes black. Only ver that half worked was hacked 29. Any suggestions on how to fix this or am I doing something wrong
How did you burn the hacked image? What program did you use to burn? Also, there is now a hacked 30 & 31 firmware with a brand new BM so you might wanna try this instead. Some nice extra options/features have been added to the new BM!

. only one that would boot was th hacked version. Everytime I tried 30 or 31 it would just go black. I even tried to trick it and open and change disk while in boot manager and put in a 31 hacked version and when I tried to do the firmware upgrade it would tell me FAILED PROGRAMMING FIRMWARE FILE
Try to go into the 'Recovery Mode' by pressing the reset button 3X about a second apart. You'll know you're in recovery mode when the ps2 browser screen appears. Then, you can either already have the upgrade disc in the tray or insert at this screen in order to try the installation. See if that helps! Thanks!
thanks for quick response
I just gonna redo the whole install of modchip again and see if I can make it better. I will let you know soon as I get done and see if that was the issue
Why would you wanna do that? There is a known issue in upgrading to the new BM & firmware in that you need to be in 'Recovery Mode' in order to install. I had to do this myself with the hacked30 version. However, I was able to use a network install to upgrade to the hacked31 firmware. So, I guess being in recovery mode isn't the exact issue since I was able to use my network setup to install without using recovery mode! Thanks!

If you upgrade from x->30 or x->31 (what I did), you need to boot in recovery mode. If you upgrade from 30->31 everything is back to normal and you can use the netwotk install.

I'm not saying this is the problem for everyone experiencing these installation troubles. Some have been able to get the new firmware & BM installed without entering recovery mode. However, most seem to need to be in that recovery mode & that included me! I got nothing but a black screen until getting into recovery mode & since all has been well with BM except for the problems trying to install applications via network. Now, with Jones23 on the forums pointing out that the APPINFO.PBT files need some tweaking for the new BM to work! Thanks!

You only need recovery mode if there's a previous version of BM installed, and only when upgrading from 29 or lower to 30 or higher.
Some people don't use BM and they don't need recovery mode to use the upgrade disc.
