Black screen, flickers, works when disabled. Help –
Little help required please
Have a V7 with a crystal chip v1.1 installed, all worked fine for a few days, played all backups and imports...
Now i get a black screen on boot, screen flickers. CC LED is on for about 1/2 sec, then off.
I can hit reset 6 times on boot (disables chip) ps2 boots, and can play original games ok.
Any ideas what to look for?
Sounds like one of your wires is lose or a cold solder point. if you dont want to reinstall all wires first remove DVD/CD controler points. test then if it dose not work remove all wires and reinstall

Ok, just checked all connections, resoldered all apart from Q T U V W R, (these look fine to me, all checked with multimeter - OK)
Still getting the same results.
Tested a bit more with CC in disable mode, having trouble reading dvd media, getting 'no data' when trying to play games. DVD movies load, but don't go far, don't get much on the screen, or audio,(get menu).
Plays Original PS1 games fine.
Is it possible the chip is faulty?
any more suggestions would be great.

im not too sure about a CC but i put a MI in my ver 7 and it di prettymuch the same thing and here s what was wrong........
1. wires were WAY too long
2. ground and 3.3 need to be thick wire
3. ground as close to the chip as possble (the copper strip arounf the outside works well)
with the chip further away it was causing it to run to ground and faulting the chip so that t wont over heat.
Well the wires are pretty short, and i have used think wire for the ground and 3.3v.
Here's an image of the install.
The chip worked for a while, so i am starting to wonder if it has died.
Does anyone know what the recovery mode is with the cc (3 resets on boot) i can enter this mode and the ps2 boots normally (untill reset again), but what does this do to the actual chip?
Sorted out the issue, works like a charm now
Not sure exactly what it was, all i did was pull it apart and gave all soldered joints a good clean with circuit board cleaner, make sure wires wern't crossing each other...
It's quite possible there was ball of solder under the pins shorting out?
Thanks for those who helped.
Glad you got it working.
Nice install job, by the way. My job looks horrible compared to yours... probably because I've only modded 2 PSX's before, and they were my very first soldering jobs... But I stuck the Crystal Chip in my PS2 myself, and it works like a charm. I have long wires, crossing wires, thin wires for ground/power, and have no problems whatsoever
I just have my chip in a different location because when the metal shield goes on, I wanted to make sure it doesn't press down on the chip, causing any problems. Got it in a nice open area where the shield doesn't come in contact with it
