hello,i have a version 4 ps2 with hacked 34,i put a dvd backup in (ritek g05)and it played to my surprise.I turned it off and when i turned it on the next day the disk would load but it wouldn't come on,then i tried originals and they showed up to,but wouldn't load.So i decided to try and reinstal 34.I think i erased from the chip, dunno.
But all i get now is a black screen when i try to reinstal 34/29.

I've done the three reset button thing too,its funny when i put the dvd backup in after i disable the chip with the six button reset,it says (dvd not setup)

The upgrade disc should definitely load in recovery mode (the three reset button thing ). Maybe you have to try a few times to get the timing right, but if it still won't boot you should check the installation. Let's just hope that your laser didn't take any damage from the crappy ritek media.

Yeah i've tried the installation and it looks ok,im getting the one second light on boot.Dont think its the laser cause all my disks show up in the browser.Im getting into the recovery fine too, cause i see the start up screen with the glowing blue dots and my backups still show in the browser.I just cant get the bm disk to start, the screen keeps going black
I might try and uninstal the chip and see what that does

Hmm, do originals start when you disable the chip (6x reset)? They should do so, like on an unmodded console. If not, then it might be a good idea to desolder the chip and maybe also check the fuses on the mobo (PS1, PS2, etc.).
Maybe it's only that specific disc, you could try to burn the upgrade disc again.
This is really guesswork for me, cause I'm not too familiar with the hardware.

Thanks jones for the help,i tried original disks when i disabled the chip(reset x 6),but they just keep going to the browser.I'll take the 3v wire off the chip and try again, just to make sure its not the ps2.
I'll let you know when i do it

    Shagster,

Try booting with the chip disabled and see if a PSX disc will play. If so it is possible that your laser is going bad (the DVD pickup). I have seen several weak lasers behave as you describe. It may have been that your laser was working but a little weak and may have died after playing a burned disc.

It also may be that it is just slightly out of alignment. If I remember correctly your V4 only has a single wheel for the height adjustment. Do you think you might have bumped it during reassembly?
The First Amendment only survives because the Second Amendment is watching over it.

Hello,i've put my laser into a version 3 i have, that had only the cd laser working. The dvd works no problem in it,but im not sure about the cd,some work no problem, some dont.Probably on the way out,oh well at least its not the dvd one
Going to fully uninstal the crystal chip and reinstal it later in the version 4,never got to try out the atad thingy yet, which i was about to do when i found out it played ritek dvd-r disks,i tried to play backups before with cheap media(which didn't work) and thought my laser wasn't up to the job.So i left it alone,i have a hdd anyway so it really didn't bother me.Oh well its probably my crap solder skills lol, have to check it out later.
