Ok so I threw in the towel on my DMS headaches and grabbed a CC 1.1 lite to put in my V12..browsed the forum and found close but not quite the info I need.
So installed chip, downloaded FW and BM from crystal site.

Flashed FW19 then installed BM, so when I insert a disc BM gives me the option to boot the dics after it recognizes the type. But I get a black screen as it trys to load it, then the BM menu pops back up???
Oddly the PS2 sees the disc BM shows a PS2 disc icon in the top left corner.
So I uninstalled BM and the chip boots my media fine now.

Now I am to understand to get the chips full potential I'll need BM so what am I doing wrong?

And lastly, is it my understanding DNAS patching is done to both the disc and the server therefor I can play both my backup media as well as my originals online without having to disable the chip. If so what steps do I need to take.. Thanx in advance to all those the view and respond.

Preciate the fast response woore. So my question is, is it ok for me to simply overwrite the existing firmware or do I need to the 6x reset trick to erase it. meanwhile i'll look for the hacked firmware download.

I had just found it when I read your post, thanx again guys for the help. Bought to burn the .bin and giv it a shot. While searching I did run across a few post where the age old argument was presented of which is better. I ran across a comparison of the Magic, Messiah, Crystal 1.1 and the DMS4.
Dont know about you guys but the diagnostic LED that the Crystal as is a sure winner. I had ben useing DMS 3 and 4's for about 3 years now, but as of late I kept running into failures on both new and existing installs.
I know I know the install is usually to blame but I took a working system and swapped chips and ran into different symptoms. Not to mention the laser burn out issue. Another selling point for me on the crytal.
I will admit im new to the crystal but chips and pie so far
Your opions, comments and feed back is welcomed

    THE VERDICT
Ok fw 19 from gamefreax.de was installed as well as BM. Ok so when my backups are inserted with me not touching a thing BM says please wait while the disc stops and starts(clear case).
Now if I go in and choose boot media/sleep or minimal mode they work fine. But default or enhanced is a nogo. And as one would suspect originals are booting fine either way.
And as I found out you obviously need enhanced for the DNAS patching work around..
Ok fellas and ideas cause im stumped ??

if you insert a backup without pressing any key bootmanager should boot automatically in enhanced mode. of course if auto boot is chosen in the config, which is default. what happens if you boot up without memcard?

Ok with no mem card BM is bypassed(assuming that was your goal) all media boots fine. Similar to when I had uninstalled BM. Per this forum I am to understand BM is a must for DNAS patching of both disc and server??

yes, to bypass DNAS you need BM. but in the moment i have another idea: go to the configs of BM an switch PAL and NTSC fixes off for PS2 games. hope this will help.

and without memcard BM is not bypassed, its simply not present because its installed on memcard

Sorry Knighty but still the same. I tried with both NTSC and PAl fixes off off as you suggested, but no luck, then one on and the other off and vice a versa but no change either.
