I just installed my EZI pro in my japanese v7 ps2 (SCPH-37000B) and it's a good installation... all lights on the test board are green and it boots original japanese discs and original US discs perfectly fine... it also booted a ps1 backup game just fine.... toxicos 0.41 is installed and works

now here's where the problem starts....
when I install my BB unit (original sony (maxtor) drive, and ethernet only network adaptor), I *cannot* normal boot ANY japanese originals... the ps2 simply ignores the disc and starts booting BB Navigator 0.30.... if I try to insert the disc while it's in psbbn, it'll attempt to boot the disc but I get the dreaded red screen.... I also tried reformatting the drive (with original psbbn 0.30 disc) and then updating to 0.32... obviously the same thing happens

it will boot *any* disc just fine if I go through toxicos or fast boot or disabling the DMS4 *while* the BB unit is installed... if I remove the BB unit, normal boot works perfectly

I haven't seen any posts regarding this problem.... is it just simply a limitation of toxicos unable to boot backups or originals while psbbn (0.30+) is installed? or is there something wrong with my installation? or does psbbn 0.30+ has modchip defeation/detection sony added?

again, ALL the lights on the test board light up green and there are ZERO problems *without* the BB unit

maybe you have some ideas bungiefan?

i havnt done any testing with psbbn and toxic.

i doubt its your installation. i dont think the coder of toxicos has a psbbn unit handy. i havnt heard any scenaios of users with psbbn and toxic either, so i really have no clue on this issue

well, seeing as there's a large number of modders in japan actually using a DMS4 variant, I think it'll be great if a future toxicos/toxicbios worked perfectly with a BB unit PS2

    thanks for the insight though

oh yeah... I just noticed today after I reformatted the drive to install linux (coexisting with psbbn/APA partition) also:
    • "Update" is possible with psbbn as long as the modchip is enabled. It allows you to update psbbn to the latest version as well as automatically downloading the "Game Channel" data (news, demos, etc). The "Game Channel" data gets stored in the 9GB reserved partiton, so you're not wasting any extra space doing so. Might as well make use of that space!
    • The "Internet Provider" option gets enabled once you have run the update, currently it shows only isao.net and BIGLOBE in the list
    • Formatting/Initializing the hard drive through the psbbn disc does not automatically install the latest DVD drivers (3.00)
    • Installing the latest DVD drivers also requires the modchip off (known issue and is normal)

You normally cannot update psbbn on a non-Japanese IP address, but it's nice that the toxicos *is* doing something to let you get around that
Still sucks that you can't do normal boot with psbbn installed though
