Mod chip / hd loader / laser dead

Hi Guys

I have a ps2 with a hard drive and i use hd loader software. The laser is now dead (due to me screwing with the pots and tearing a ribbon cable) Can i install a dms 4 and boot straight to the hd without the laser. I load all my games on the hd via my pc so i only used the laser for the hd loader software.

Yes you can. You do this with most chips that support dev1/dev2 booting as you store a bootable elf file on a memory card/hard drive/modchip and have it load automatically. The thing is, you need a way to either flash the chip (dms chips come blank) and done by cd or memory card (need a working drive to load a file onto the memory card). You might be able to get away with installing a chip like the matrix infinity or something, use a hard drive tool on the pc to format the partitions correctly and then copy the hdloader elf file onto the drive, but I've never done this so I'm not too sure on how to properly format the drive for elf booting, etc from Windows.

or if you get DMS4 Pro you can use Toxic OS the best HD Loader by far no CD requred besides flashing the firmware.

Well if his laser is toast and the cable is no good, it probally won't read a flash cd even, so he needs a way to flash it. I believe you can flash from memory card but you need either a moded system or a ps1 game to boot (still requires a cd for the ind. exploit) so at some point, he is going to need a cd to flash a dms4, or to get a flash file onto a memory card unless it can be done like I said above.

Some people also sell preflashed chips.

never seen a new preflashed dms4 w/toxic unless its intalled or used.

Hypersonic, if his drive is dead and his laser cable is torn, how is he supposed to boot the independence installer?

corect only way he can flash is via memcard running devmode
