Hi guys, I have a fat PS2 with a 250 GB Maxtor HDD with DMS PRO and Toxic OS .41 set up. I am trying to get some apps installed in Toxic but not sure how. I want to mainly be able to play movies and music from the PS2. My laser is fried so I cannot use discs anymore. Would really appreciate it if someone can help! Thanks

Yeah, this is the option I'd use, seeing how you do have FMCB. I did the install myself.

Yes, TehJawknee, it is your install and it worked great but I recently found out that I do have the option of using Toxic OS and so I am trying to utilize it to its full potential.

There is a tab in Toxic OS called 'Apps' and I wanted to install some apps. SMS player would definitely be one. I have the latest version 'SMS Version 2.9 (Rev.4).elf' but just did not know how to install it. I think I can figure it out with the guide that JNABK kindly provided. I want to be able to run the apps via HDD and not USB mass. I guess I could copy and paste the install script from the guide and change the App name, in this case the app would be 'SMSPLAYER'; is this right? Also, I am aware of the method of transferring back-up games via network. Does it work the same way for movies and music?

The way I use it is by opening my SMS and having the PS2 connected to the network, then using RadHostClient on my PC to open up the directory I want to use on the PS2. Drag n Drop and you're set. RadHostClient connects automatically to the PS2 and as long as you have SMS configured to autoload network devices, then it should show up.

If you really want to do things the way the DMS4 team planned it, then you are of course free to do so. But the Apps menu of ToxicOS is a very awkward and limited way of handling your elf launching needs, due to the requirement of using new install scripts every time you want to add or change something. And similar limitations apply to the Browser menu, where the only useful abilities are to inspect the content or run elfs, but without any way to copy files/folders that you may need to do.

I have a DMS4proSE myself with ToxicOS installed, but hardly ever use it since I find other freeware solutions to be better for nearly everything. The one exception is that ToxicOS is compatible with a few more games installed to HDD, but for all other games HDLoader 0.8b/0.8c has more to offer, and for elf launching and media browsing I use nothing but uLaunchELF.

In the latter I am obviously partial though , being one of its developers, but I think most here will agree with me in stating that the Browser of ToxicOS is pure crap compared to the FileBrowser of uLE. The GUI of ToxicOs is perhaps 'prettier', but it can't match the uLE FileBrowser in real usefulness.

And while the user defined elf launch buttons of the uLE menu may seem limited (normally just 11 available per page), there are ways around those limits (up to 14 per page, or multiple menu pages). And with uLE no scripting is ever needed. Just use the built-in configuration menus to change your setup and save the CNF file to MC.

    Best regards: dlanor

Thanks for the detailed reply, dlanor! What I am basically trying to do is install atleast the uLaunchElf app in the Apps section of Toxic OS so I don't have to hold R2 to go to the FileBrowser menu of uLE every time I switch my PS2 on since I have set the default boot mode to Toxic OS. Essentially, install uLE in the HDD. Similarly, I want to install SMS player in the HDD (or in Apps section of Toxic OS) as I do not want to store anything but game saves in my memory card, if I can help it. Also, what are other apps that are available for the PS2 that are worth getting?

I should also mention that I have formatted my memory card in a bold attempt to configure my set up more efficiently (that is, utilize the HDD to the max). So therefore freemcboot is gone (no disrespect Teh!)...

Just out of cuiousity, what is your set up? Do you have any Apps in Toxic OS?

Yes, I see what you want to do, though I never did it myself.
I might look into how best to do it anyway. Not because I want it for myself, but because I really should know all the ways a user can utilize uLE, even by methods I would not choose for my own use.

Similarly, I want to install SMS player in the HDD (or in Apps section of Toxic OS) as I do not want to store anything but game saves in my memory card, if I can help it.
I understand, though that is not something i will do. But presumably any script that can do it for uLE can be adapted with little effort for any other application too.

Also, what are other apps that are available for the PS2 that are worth getting?
Well, in my opinion most of the heavyweight champions are already mentioned in this post, these being FMCB, uLE, SMS and HDLoader, though I understand why you chose not to use two of those. Another major program is ESR for those with unmodded consoles, though that is another one you wouldn't use. Next I'd want the major emulators for older consoles, such as SNES-Station (both HDD and USB versions), the NES emulator FCEU, and various others. I really can't go through everything in a post like this, so you'll have to find other stuff yourself.

We don't have pure download sections at this site though, so you might find it easier to find application collections at SKSApps.com instead.

I should also mention that I have formatted my memory card in a bold attempt to configure my set up more efficiently (that is, utilize the HDD to the max). So therefore freemcboot is gone (no disrespect Teh!)...
No problem, that is your choice, though you may come to regret that if/when the DMS4 flash loses memory and needs reflashing, like mine has several times over. Having an alternate boot method based only on MC content is a great backup for such cases.

(I have two different such methods, as one of my MCs also contains an older MC exploit.)

Just out of cuiousity, what is your set up? Do you have any Apps in Toxic OS?
None. I have no need for it, as I always boot to uLE as Dev1.
I could of course do the same with booting uLE as Dev2 instead, though I'd still use MC for the CNF file.

Booting into ToxicOS by default is something I never even considered doing.
To me the only purpose of ToxicOS is to run some very few games it can handle that normal HDLoader (which I otherwise prefer) is not able to run.

I also have ToxicOS and only really use it for a few incompatible games and cheats when i decide to play an old game and just want to mess around in the game.

But i placed uLe on the HDD and used the script to install it originally. I dont have it as a dev, but rather in the apps tab, since i rarely need to use uLe on that ps2. The only other apps i ever installed was whats in the tutorial, as i only did it to make the tutorial.:P

dlanor is quite right, using ToxicOS is kinda obsolete now, but has its usefullness for some convieniences. Since FMCB, i rarely use any of my modchips..mostly for testing stuff.
