    Hey all,

I have a slim PS2 and a Matrix infinity chip in it, and I was having problems playing Splinter Cell: Double Agent (I had a PAL version of it) I was told that my chip had integrated y-fix stuff at afterdawn.com, and I found out that by holding triangle+circle it'd show a config menu.

I did that, and I figured the firmware was old because that option wasn't there. In any case, I clicked "Save" and resetted. And now I cannot play any backups at all.

I thought that the fakes died if you tried to flash the firmware... would a fake also just die by entering the config menu? Please, any help would be appreciated, I live in a country where EVERYTHING is expensive as hell (paid 400 USD for this thing 2 years ago) and I honestly would be too heartbroken that I got ripped off...

Also, I can still enter the firmware menu by holding triangle + circle, so I don't think the chip is dead itself, right?

Yes you can kill a clone by just going into the config menu. Some if you try to save, some if you try to update the chip and some all three. Sounds to me like you got yourself a clone.

Sounds like it. Now, why can I STILL enter the config menu? If it were dead, I wouldn't be able to get in, right?

There are different ways for a chip to die but here it means that the chip is no longer able to boot backups so in that context, your chip is dead.

You were ripped off by the person who installed your mod because its a cheap fake.

ppl modding for prof often take advantage of others....if you go to them, you show you don't know what you are doing, so you expose yourself to "special treatment"

next time buy the chip yourself ask a friend to solder your stuff
