Will not read backups.

Hi
I have just installed Matrix infinity chip and it will not read my backups it will only read originals. Have borrowed ps2 backups from friends and the games do boot up showing in the screen the Playstaion matrix 1.54 version letters
after this the screen goes all black and nothing else happens .
The chip has been installed correctly as the chip menu comes out when i press tringle and circle button at the moment ive tried DVD-R without any success will try next DVD+R as PS2 version 4 .
will appreciate any help on this one as running out of ideas why backups
are not playing////Thanks////

After waiting for a reply i decided to try all options as it appears that a PS3 would be launched before i got reply.
Solution i calibrated the PS2 lens after several attempts got the backups i made running and yes DVD+R work better on a PS2 v4 than DVD-R hope this comes in useful for some poor soul who will see his grandchildren get married before he gets a reply on this site///Rgds
