I just soldered a Matrix Infinity (greendot) chip into my PS2, and I wanted to verify that it works before putting everything back together. I connected the powersupply, reset/eject buttons, and control pad header, and plugged it in (to power and tv).

It boots up to the standard PS2 boot screen (browse etc.). The eject light is flashing, as I'd expect with no drive connected. My question is, should I be able to get to the Matrix config screen this way? I held the circle and triangle buttons while booting, and I still get the regular browse screen. Does this mean the chip isn't working, or does it require the drive to be connected?

Not a HDD drive. I don't have the regular DVD/CD drive connected (just power, control pad, and eject/reset buttons).

Okay, turns out there was one bad connection from the mod chip. Got that fixed, and it's fine.

Just for the record (in case anyone else finds this thread in a future search), the mod chip menu will in fact boot up without the cd/dvd drive connected. So you can test your chip installation by just plugging the power supply into the motherboard and booting.
