v15 PS2 with low booting rate. Why? :(
v15 PS2 with low booting rate. Why? :( –
When it works, it works fine. But a lot of the times (happening more often now), I just can't boot the games. PS2 will load up, then goes to the browse manager with the PS2 disk showing up but not loading. And I believe when this happens (game won't load), the MATRIX logo doesn't show up in the beginning. I can tell that it'll load when the Matrix logo shows up, then the PS2 booting sequence with the cubes and sound.
Any idea? Could it be a loose wire? Bad media? bad laser?

Poor quality install. Probably very long wires/lots of crossing/wrong size 3.3v and GND wires.
Hmm, looks like I'll have to open it up tomorrow and check. Thanks. What size should the 3.3v/GND wires be?
Weird thing is that I believe this only started happening recently. Games used to boot up everytime before (installation was less than a month ago).
3.3v and Ground should be about 1-1.5mm thick; that's the actual quantity of wire, not insulation.
I believe they are 23awg wires. Is that enough?
Are they more than 2-4cm long?
Are the rest of the wires long or crossing a lot?
here's how I would approach this.
1) Re-check your install for loose wires or bad connections using a multimeter. You might also have a wire connected in the wrong spot, re-check that as well. Also you might want to try different media and/or burning program for your back-ups.
2) If it still gives you problems, remove the chip and see if it will play normally without the chip or you might have a bad laser.
3) If it plays normally without the chip, re-install the chip and see if the same problem persist.
4) If you still have the same problem it might be a bad chip, and you need a new one. Although this is highly unlikely since it is usually the install that is at fault.
Also post some pics of your install so we can help you out better.
