v14 MI "no data" –
Ive got myself a serious and mysterious problem. I just succesfully modded my second v14 with the original MI, it worked, I played a couple of minutes on it, tested everything.
Then I sold it, the customers came back the very next moment, saying it doesn't work. So I test it and indeed, it doesn't work anymore. My disc drive doesnt respond... saying "no data" even if I don't put any disc in it. Also the discs won't spin, the disc drive just doesn't even try.
I don't understand, I did the same install as my first, updated it to v1.82, I didn't do anything wrong... why does my first install work flawlessly (i play daily on it), and this one not?
What could be broken... I've already checked the solder points but there's no damage as I can see. It's the disc drive that's totally inactive..
Could be the laser that failed.
Yeah either that or if the disc doesnt spin at all consider checking all the ribbon cables for the laser.

I think you got lucky as youre first instal worked flawless.
I remember when starting modding PS2, I messed up a few consoles .
But this is not the point, you should check the ribbons first, when not ok, check fuses. It also could be a flux issue, clean up the solderpoints, as it might help. Check also for soldersplash.
Hope it helps.
My PS2 (slim case) was pre-installed modchip when I first got. I upgrade to version1.88 while program installed the power was gone by accidental. I plug back and re-program update but this time is screen is black and nothing come up. Do I screw my mod chip? Please help me
Try the recovery mode. Hold down reset for 5 seconds with the upgrade cd in the ps2.
I did reset but PS2 still starts with blank screen or some time starts up with setup screen.
Hmmm, sounds like you have to replace the modchip then. Not sure what else you can do if your firmware is currupted. If the recovery mode doesn't work then you're pretty much left with nothing else to work with.
