v14 matrix –
01-15-2007,01:38 PM
i installed a matrix infinity green dot last night.
it wont read disks.
i assume that i didn't **** the ps2 and it's just the disk wires that aren't secure very well or messed up somehow. so i'm not too worried. i'll go buy a multimeter and check it out.
but while we were installing it, the bios battery ripped off. we put it back on the pins but no matter what it didn't seem to work. kept asking for the timezone and everything.
can i just go buy a new battery from radio shack and connect it?
does the battery effect the system wiht anything other than saving initial setup configs?
i just want to make sure the bios battery is not effecting more then i though, before i stress over trying to get the cdvds to read.
thanks

The bios battery is only meant for saving time and your preferences. It doesn't stopped a game from booting or anything like that.

I had same problem with my V14 with MI green dot. I made a mistake with the a, b, i & g wire. When I re-attached them my backups went fine.
Good luck!

it just plain wouldn't read disks, backup or original.
so i took the chip out.
and it still wont read the disks. wont play store bought games.
the board looks a little burnt by where you connect all the dvd wires.. i don't know. i'll try to get a picture.
no other spot on the board discoloured like that area next to those little solder points.
we didn't even hold the solder iron on it any longer then anywhere else.
what would cause the disks to just stop reading?
even when the chip is taken back out?

sounds like the laser isn't connecting properly. Either the cable is not connected properly or you have a more serious problem; like damaged points on a, b, i & g on the board.

i'll get a picture of the board up if i can find my camera.
the cables seem to be fine.
the laser moves.. but the cd wont spin.
is there a way to fix damaged board?

Have you found anything yet?
I do have the same problem, I even removed the chip and cleaned everything up, but still it can not read any disks..
In my case, it tries to spin the DVD but it only moves a quorter of a turn and the laser seems to go up and down..
After a short while it can spin the DVD slowly but still the laser maskes noises.

If the disc isn't spinning at all you probably blew a fuse. I believe its the PS13 fuse which controls the spinning.
Get a multimeter and check your fuses, also inspect the ribbon cables and make sure they weren't damaged during the installation.
Besides that I would look over the board to make sure solder wasn't splashed somewhere accidently.
Also use the multimeter to check and make sure you didn't damage the CD/DVD points (A,B,I G, etc).
