Can I extract the files from the firmware upgrade CD and, using bigger dummy files, make a firmware upgrade DVD? Will I be able to upgrade a Matrix Infinity chip with this DVD?

Reason? My PS2 cannot read CDs anymore.

Yes you can. Use isobuster or some prog that will extract files from iso then make a dvd image with all the files inside that iso.

USB stick w/ lauchelf is a good/better option. Wasting a dvd just for that feels too weird to me. But then again, it's just me.

I agree. What I have to do? Copy all the files to the pen drive and run the ELF with uLaunchELF?

Well I always copy everything(except the dummy files) from the .BIN to a folder on my USB stick and execute the I.ELF from uLaunchELF. That has worked every time. I haven't tried to cut down the amount of files from that because we're only talking about such small files. Maybe all you need is the I.ELF, dunno.
