Even though v1.54 is an official firmware version of the Matrix Infinity, the fact your firmware programming gets stuck at 0% tells me it's a clone, not an official Matrix Infinity chip. Some newer clones of the Matrix allow you to upgrade the firmware, but older clones had built-in protection to prevent you from updating the firmware so you wouldn't damage the chip. When I first got my PS2 chipped with what I thought was an official Matrix Infinity, I tried upgrading the firmware and it would do the same with staying at 0% programming. It wasn't until I went into the boot menu settings of the chip to save the settings, that I ended up damaging the chip. On most clones, upgrading the firmware or saving the settings from the boot menu of the chip will damange the chip's programming and render it useless. I ended up having to pay for an official Matrix Infinity and had that installed, then I was able to upgrade the firmware, so it wasn't the media I was using or how I burned the disc. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure if you have an official matrix infinity is to disassemble the PS2, take a picture of the chip up close and post it here for someone to tell you if it's an official Matrix, since there's no known software that can tell you if it's a clone or not. Clones are a lot more common then the official chip, because they are cheaper and most people can't tell the difference.

i have a question you said yours wouldnt save the settings because when i go to the matrix infinity settings and save it works does that mean it could be a real chip and the disc just doesnt work

Yea it's possible you could have an official matrix chip. Can you still boot backups after you saved the settings?
