So I just killed my Clone
So I just killed my Clone –

Of course I didn't realise it was a clone until I tried to change a simple setting. Great, my chip lasted a day and a half.
I'm not particularly good with dealing with people, and i want a real infinity so I was thinking, perhaps a friend and I could install it ourselves. He has done soldering before, he did a robotics course during some holidays in uni. I would be there to say 'you better not stuff this up, or you just bought a ps2' (not really).
So tell me if you think it's managable. Also, if anyone knows any great and illustrative guides, a linky would be much appreciated.

if its a clone and you are going to put in an original, all points on the board will be the same so you will only have to unsolder the wire at the chip and resolder to new chip
go to www.infinitymod.com and check the diagrams
cheers

Well that's good news, the points on the chips look way easier to solder than the points on the ps2.
My chip came with v1.38 firmware, thats about all I know - oh, and that I paid top dollar for it. Last time I trust a man with a tattoo of WB's Tasmanian Devil in his shoulder lol.
So, Mr. Beetle, where would the best place to buy an Infinity chip be, considering I am a fellow Australian?
Thanks for the help

Ah I had found quantronics and was going to order off of them. Thanks for the intructions on wholesale pricing though! My friend has a business so I might get him to register and save me a few dollars. In the mean time I'm looking up to see what I may need to reprogram the clone chip. Based on the final price for both I will decide if the real matrix is worth it.
I am also interested in a PSOne modchip. Any ideas on the best place to get one?
