PS2 turns itself off randomly
PS2 turns itself off randomly –
So I've installed green dot with neofix iii on my slim ps2 (v12, SCPH-0008 i guess). At first there was a problem with booting games - I've got black screen after sony logo. Solved by upgrading firmware.
But now I wonder about two things:
1) Is ps2 laser so sensitive to the quality of discs? I have two disks of FFX and I periodically switch them because my ps2 often can't read some parts of disks (luckily, different parts). Besides it can't read CD-RW and DVD-RW at all (well, at least the ones i tried to read)
2) (THE problem) Sometimes console just power itself off in a middle of something. And when I say power off - I don't mean standby, it shuts down tight so it won't respond to reset button. And diode also don't glow. And the only way to power it on again is to unplug it from AC adaptor and plug again. Is this neofix's doing? When i installed and tested it, it sent console to standby mode after 3 seconds. Just as manual says.
The pstwo might be overheating. Open and assemble the console again just to make sure you properly assembled it. Then see what happens. Right now I'm guessing the heatsink is not in proper contact with the emotion engine.
That may be the reason... Thanks, I'll try.
The reason is the NEOFIX.
This shutdown the ps2 .
Try to remove J wire and never shotdown again.
My opinion is remove the neofix and put a subzero fix .
Have a nice 2006
Actually, the problem was in bad DVD-Recorder... I've recorded some DVD's using a Pioneer drive. And when i played with these disks there was problems with reading. And overheating as a consequence i suppose. Later I've bought NEC ND-3550A DVD-Recorder and burnt some DVD-R's with it. After that none of problems reappeared.
Correction: First disks were recorded with NEC 3540, not Pioneer.

Sounds kinda unreasonable but hey, it's possible.
