    I no longer have a Matrix Infinity chip, so I can't test this now, but I used to have one earlier. Sometimes when I messed up the settings I was able to recover by again booting the firmware installation disc. This should let you start over with defaults for all settings (thus restoring your display mode).

    Edit: I just realized that the firmware installation menu might also come up in VGA mode, making you unable to see it. But you should be able to fix that by booting in 'recovery' mode. The following info on how to do that is from the readme text in the release package of firmware 1.82:

    Code:
    - NOTE : You can always recover from a bad flash by entering recovery mode.
      ==== This will let you boot the upgrade disc to reflash your Infinity.

              To enter recovery mode:

              V1-V12 and V14 PAL :
              ====================

              Hold the reset button until the blue eject light turns on.

              V14+ USA and JAP
              ================

              USA : Hold reset until blue eject lights turn on, wait 3 seconds and
              tap reset again.

              JAP : Hold reset until blue eject lights turn on, wait 3 seconds and
              tap reset, wait 3 more seconds and tap reset again.
    Hopefully this will fix your problem.

    Best regards: dlanor

    dlanor, thanks for your answer!

    But when I enter in recovery mode (I suppose because I see the boot screens and so on) the CD with the firmware is not working and the TV screen turn black.

    To enter in recovery mode I turn on the PS2 pressing the reset button by 3 seconds.

    I think that my SCPH79001 is V16.

    Please help me!!!

    Thanks a lot!

    The console is working fine, the problem is your display can't cope with the vga resolution, go through the steps below.

    1) Power on the ps2 while holding both the Triangle & Circle buttons - hold for 4 seconds.

    2) then release and press X once

    3) now press "Start" button and wait 3 seconds; then hit reset and see if the tv displays a picture.
