So there's a possibility that the chip is defective.
Anyway, I tried booting dvd games yesterday and they won't boot. But this time I only tried like 5 times.
Oh and I've noticed that the PS2 splash screen is 'broken'. There are too many boxes! (I'll try to take a picture)
However, this broken screen is only visible when I try to boot the dvd games.
now It will not boot DVD media at all, Ive tried:
1. Installing the SummOne resistors, made no difference.
2. Altering the DVD pot up and down, made no difference.
I have orderd a new PVR - type laser + mechanism, currently it is SPU3170 which so I gather is inferior. (To change from one to the other requires EEPROM updating)
The comsoft v4 stops the focus and tracking coils from melting the laser but in this case the laser diode is failing even though I can still see shining on the disc.
I just hope that my new PVR laser + comsoft + summone will work for longer.
How's it going ion_drive?
I finally decided to give booting the medias that won't work another go, and nope it didn't work.
For those who just bumped into this thread...
The kind of media(s) that works on my PS2.
- dvd movies (including dual layers) work. (Must use force boot method)
- PSOne backups work (Must use force boot method)
- Music cds
And the Sony splash screen (you know, the one with the boxes) is fuctup. There are more boxes and there's some sort of ghosting effect on these new boxes.
But it looks normal when I boot those bootable medias. (dvd movies, psone games)
