Problem with DVD-9

So I recently bought a slim PS2 PAL SCPH-70003 with Matrix Infinity 1.93 chip. And it doesn't read dual layer dvds. It doesn't even display any "unable to read disc" errors or anything. The problem is that it seems it doesn't even try to read DVD-9. You go into the browser the note "reading disc" appears for a second and dissapears and there seems to be no laser activity at all. The disc is not faulty, because I played it on my friends PS2 with modbo 745 and it ran perfectly. Anybody have any ideas what might be wrong? Thank you.

and I'm guessing that there's no laser fix such as comsoft v4 or neo XIV. laser is either dead or dying.

Single layer DVDs and CDs are working perfectly so I don't think it's the lazers fault. I haven't tried running a Dual Layer video disc on it too... Yet.

Btw would you mind explaining about laser fix? And if i'm being a pain in the ass then a site with info or explanations would be fine too. =] Thank you.
