I feel like I have a pretty odd selection of media that my ps2 will and will not read. I have the Matrix Infinity purchased from the official US reseller and properly installed tot he best of my knowledge (I solder for a living).

Basically, it seems to be able to read CD-R, not DVD+R, can't boot games from original black CD (but can obviously read from it), can't boot original silver CD or DVD, but can boot original purple DVD...

I'm confused as hell... before the modchip was installed it read all originals (silver, purple and black) just fine. Here is a more detailed list of what I tried, btw:

First, I tried a Verbatim CD-RW burned at 4x with the latest firmware and it could not read it.

Second, I tried verbatim CD-R burned at 16x with the latest firmware and it did read and did boot and I successfully installed the firmware.

Third, I tried running a Verbatim DVD+R (8x) and it could not read the disc.

Fourth, I tried running a regular PS2 DVD (We Love Katamari, it has a silver-tinted bottom) and it could not read the disc.

Fifth, I tried running a older regular PS2 DVD (Knockout Kings 2001, which has a purple-tinted bottom) and it successfully read and booted the disc and the game played perfectly.

Sixth, I tried running a regular PSX CD (silver-bottomed) and it could not read the disc.

Seventh, I tried running a regular PSX CD (black-bottomed) and it would not boot the game (Castlevania: SOTN), BUT it could read the 2nd track on the disc as a music file from the browser and played the music track just fine.

Sounds like your laser is getting old. You should clean the lense and maybe adjust the pot.

The purple disc is definately a DVD. I'm assuming it's only the older PS2 games that have the purple finish, though, because all the newest ones seem to look like regular grey/silver DVD movie discs.

And if I'm not mistaken, all PSX games are black, right?
