nothing boots anymore!! except for PS1 games

ahh! Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong with my ps2/modchip?

I have a ps2 slim with matrix infinity chip that i installed. I installed it in jan 2005, and its worked fine, played everything well. Then sometime early December, it just stopped playing games (ps2 & ps1 {even originals}) after I watched the DVD Saw on it.

Then later on, I learned that one of the wires were pinched and replaced it. Then all was fine again cept that it didnt play DVD-R. So I opened it again and found that a wire was severed. I fixed that and now when I put it any game, originals, dvds, copies, etc. It takes me to "Insert PS2 disc" screen and the only time PS1 games work are when i do the Force PS1 mode by pressing the circle button.

I tried disabling the chip for the ps2 games (circle and triangle), but it still takes me to the "insert PS2 disc" screen.

What should I do? should I replace all my wires? Is there something wrong with the chip/ps2? thanks

i'd recheck all the wires again - use a multimeter is possible. do ps2 originals boot?

even ps2 originals take me to the "insert disc screen" even when i disable the modchip too

could still be a loose wire causing the problem. worst case - remove the modchip, it should then boot originals. if not then ur laser is probably toast.

was summones fix (or any other fix) done?

Your problem sounds familiar.

Is your chip the MI green dot?

hmm i think theres a slimfix or some kind of fix chip in there, it came with the ps2 when i bought it. There used to be another modchip in there with the fix when i got it. but i replaced that chip with the matrix


Dot? hmm is it on the top left hand corner of the chip? i think it looks blue

sorry for double posting, but i was testing some games again like FFX-2 and Kingdom Hearts. Usually I would hear the sound of the disc spinning, but i dont think its been spinning these past few times, could it also be connected to something with the modchip?

my father opened up the ps2 to see if the disc spins when the ps2 is on, it doesnt

the disk wont spin with lid off unless you hold down the 2 lid sensors, one on top of eject button and one at back in middle

ok, I took out the modchip.
The discs spin now too. (thx for pointing that out dungbeetle)

unfortunately, all my ps2 games take me to the browser screen
and ps1 games take me to the "insert ps2 disc" screen

im guessing that the ps2 can read the discs or something? but idk whats really wrong.

When i click browser on the ps2 games, it says "Disc cannot be read"
what does this mean now?

i think the chip in the bottom left of the pic is the laser fix?
