no a/v out after install(mx4)
no a/v out after install(mx4) –

right to start from the beginning, installed mx4 into a v4 ps2 booted up no probs, inserted f/w disc to flash chip, followed the onscreen instructions & it hung at programing please wait, left it for 5-10 mins still not finished programing, reset console,ps2 still played originals, decided to redo earth & supply using 5v & diode fix to drop voltage to 3.4v. booted ps2 & got nothin but black screen.checked all fuses, changed control port & ribbon but stayed the same. backed out of install & ps2 still gave blank screen, changed board as had spare to get it sorted, rechipped but this time went back to original 3v
point & used thicker cable for earth & power, voila this time it booted & programmed the chip succesfully, put ps2 backup in & got the black screen again only this time it flickers every now & then with the odd white line as if it was progressing thru the video sequences of the game loaded, thought it might be the scart lead so moved the ps2 onto another tv with diff cables & the picture came up, opened the tray replaced the game, hit reset & back came the black screen flickering, so backed out of install once again, cleaned all solder off the board, checked for solder bridges & balls, found nothing but still get the same problem of no a/v out, is it poss the mx4 chip is dodgey & f***ing up the board ?( was shipped without anti static wrap)

sounds like a wiring problem. can you take a pic of your board?
also bear in mind with v4 the laser is probably ancient so it might have problems playing backups - unless you've replaced the laser already.

cheers kl1k,
checked the laser out beforehand by trying dvdr movies & music on cdr, played both fine without a stutter & without goin thru the browser, was gobsmacked by the response of the laser considering its age & being the original laser as well. got the no a/v problem without any chip installed, bearing in mind this has thrown the same symptoms up on 2 v4 boards with the same chip tried in both, hence the query of the possibility of the chip frying something onboard. have been over both boards with a fine toothcomb & cant find any thing out of the ordinary ?
