If it's the real thing, up to what version can I upgrade?
I know this next question has been raised a million times. Other then destroying the chip already installed in my PS2, how can I verify the authenticity of the chip?
Does anyone have photos of an authentic Infinity v1.21 chip?
Anyway, thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it.
ummm, open the Ps2 and see if is the real m.i. or, try changing the modchip settings and save them or try to upgrade the chip, if the upgrade doesnt work, then ur modchip is fake.
I had a ripper3.2 fitted into my PS2, I did no research about PS2 modchips and just got it installed. I took my PS2 home and it wouldn't even play my GT3 without being disabled. Once doing a bit of reading I realised the Ripper3 was just a cheap knockoff of a Matrix. I took it back to the dealer and he said "I've been told the Ripper is heaps better" but he didn't really seem to have much clue. I got a Matrix and have been happy ever since.
From reading the Ripper website, it seems only newer chips can be reprogrammed, old ones have to be modified to be able to be flashed (if they can be at all, the website's not to clear on this point)
Well?I guess this thread is closed (case is closed)
It appears I do indeed have a cheap old ripper, just my opinion, sorry if I'm offending anyone. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or post your feedback in this regard.
Looks like I'll be buying a Matrix in the not too distant future.
Thing is, here in Poland no one seems to know anything about these chips. I've seen many chips sold and the sellers claim fake chips as originals, a rather sad claim.
Finally I would like to appreciate everyone's feedback, it has been a real learning experience for me.
Thanks again to all! You guys are really great and I am grateful to all your support. This is a great place to be.
