Mi Help with US v10 –
09-16-2006,01:39 PM
Ok this is the situation,
- PS2 V10 NTSC
- The Mi is a green dot. (certified MI) vers 1.38
- all the connection points are good (no shorting anywhere with multimeter)
- when " H " Connection disconnected, the PS2 will turn on, but wont read backup discs
- when " H " Connection connected, PS2 won't turn on period using reset
- I can turn on the PS2 using eject button but I only get a black screen and the blue light is constantly blinking, no opening screens at all.
I do have 30 gauge for every connection except ground. I put elec tape on mobo protecter so It doesn't short anything out.
does anybody have any ideas?

I haven't done the romeo mod yet. I have done my own in the past with a MI on a v9 and a DMS+ on a v8. This is my first v10. in the picture what exactly are you looking for?

You should remove the modchip and clean up the points and see if your console still works fine. If it does then do the romeo mod (you need to do this) then install the modchip. As for the pic its just to show up how you installed it (how your wiring is etc)
here how to do the romeo mod

I've done the romeo mod before on my own ps2. I'll try redoing the wiring and repost the results.

ok well now I have relocated the chip closer to the bios, done the romeo mod and upped the wire gauge on the ground and the power. I am still having problems with a black screen. I can get the matrix infinity chip to the setup screen using triangle and circle, but not the main browser screen. All my connections are non faulty (checked with a multimeter for any shorts). And for some reason it won't eject the dvd tray.

Last night I checked all the fuses and they are all good as well. I am completely stumped as to what the problem is.

I have removed the modchip, cleaned al the posts and turned the ps2 on. Works just fine without the modchip.

I had a similar problem on my V9. Black screen on boot. Took out the chip, worked fine.
Fixed the problem by bumping the chip right up against the brown metal track that runs along the motherboard edge and connected the ground point to that edge using a tower of solder. Before I had used a 3/4" length of wire that I cut from a pc molex adapter (rather hefty, probably 10 or 12 gauge) and even at such a tiny length, it was apparently a ground-bounce issue.

That is where I had relocated my MI. The ground wire is 1 cm long. I think i may have found the issue though. I think one of the chips, (the one that a,b,g and h are attached to) Came loose after cleaning the solder from them. If I slightly flex the board, I can here a cracking sound as if solder is breaking. I think it is time for a new PS2.
