Metal backing plate for the motherboard?

I just bought a slim PS2 (77003), and a Matrix Infinity modchip. I can solder fine, but after hours of searching on the net I couldn't find a single guide to install this chip from start to finish.

I found a soldering diagram which apparently works for the 77003 on the Matrix site, but this leaves me with a few questions.

Where does the modchip sit in the PS2 casing? Surely there isn't room for it between the motherboard and the metal backing plate?

there is no set guide to install just get the diagram for your motherboard version and make yours match..... and the chip is small you can find a spot to put it. you can find all the info for instalation at this site if you look in the right places
